BLU Beagle Adult Male

Blu is a lean, 54-pound, tall, handsome, 4-year-old boy. He is completely housetrained and will paw at the door or bark when he needs to go outdoors. Currently, he is allowed to free-roam our house and has never had a bathroom accident. On occasion, he will counter surf, so we know to keep food out of reach. When Blu initially came into our home, he had some difficulty being left home alone and crated. He would bark and drool, excessively. After 2-3 weeks, his familiarity with our routine and his confidence improved and we were able to let him free roam our house when no one was home (up to 8 hours at a time). We typically leave him a frozen Kong or treat puzzle. He tends to perch himself on a pile of pillows on the couch and snooze the day away. Of course, he becomes super excited when his humans return home, running to greet us, grabbing a toy to play chase/keep away, and barking his excitement song.He loves to go for walks. His prey drive is strong, so a strong grip on the leash is needed to continue. He usually walks 1-4 miles a day. Blu sleeps through the night on a dog bed next to our bed. During thunderstorms, he finds comfort in his bed. He likes car rides but will bark if left alone in the car.I think Blu would be best suited for a family in a single residence. He thrives on routine and needsconsistency. In our experience, he has not been with young children or cats. His history had himliving with several other dogs, however, since being displaced, he has become reactive to other dogs. We have been bringing him into the presence of other dogs and he is slowly making some improvements but he has not been off-leash with them, yet. He would require a very slow introduction to new dogs.We have enjoyed having Blu in our home and watching his fun, smart, quirky personality emerge.NOTE: Dog may be located in any of our six volunteer states (WI, IL, IN, OH, PA, MI).If you have any questions or would like to adopt BLU, please reach out to the adoption group directly.
