My name is now Benji and I am about 6.5 years old. My foster mom calls me that because she said I reminded her of the dog on the movie Benji. She said I look like an oversized Yorkie. I am super sweet and like to cuddle up to you. I also like to explore. My foster mom thinks that that may change a bit because I just got neutered. No one knows my past and I can't remember much about it but I do know that I'm working on my house traning skills. I'm doing well. I am also fully kennel trained. I won't make a peep and I won't potty in my kennel. I don't talk at all. My foster mom has never heard my voice. I am friendly with strangers, birds, cats, large and small dogs, male or female I don't mind. I would rather do my own thing than play around with other dogs though. I have not jumped on the furniture, table or counters. I am a cancer survivor, and luckily am now cancer free! Getting neutered saved my life. I had testicular cancer. It’s crazy what a simple routine surgery can do. The vet said she got it all and it had not spread so it was caught in time. I handled all of it like a champ. I love being groomed and don't mind baths. I will stand still to be brushed nails clipped and don't mind you touching any part of my body. I am awesome around kids. My foster home is kind of like a zoo of humans and I don't mind one bit. I do like to get out of the back yard when you're not looking so a very secured yard and supervision will be necessary to keep me safe. My foster mom has a 4ft fence I can easily jump. I enjoy outside time very much, I think I spent most of my life outside. I am learning how to walk on a leash. I like to pull through a slip leash but do great on a gentle leader (head halter). I am learning it but doing really good with keeping a lose leash when walking on it. I do not know any commands at the moment but I am food motivated (not aggressive) so I can definitely learn. My foster mom is working with me so I may learn how to sit soon. I would love to go to the dog park and do my thing regularly where I can smell everything.The rescue pulled me from a shelter where a lot of dogs die. I finally am safe and looking for my forever home. For Pet's Sake Rescue is a Mississippi based rescue. Mississippi is overpopulated too many animals, not enough homes, and many high kill shelters. For Pet's Sake Rescue saves each animal from a different background.***Breed input is required for each platform but is not guaranteed to be accurate. We do not DNA/Breed test. We discuss breed assignments with our vets to label them as accurately as possible***For Pet's Sake Rescue transports animals to other states with better adoption potential. Our goal is to keep animals alive and out of kennels into their forever homes as quickly as possible. Each animal is quarantined and vetted during their time in our care. Each adopted pet is spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped and has current flea treatment unless otherwise noted. Once we review your application and check your vet reference, we will contact you to proceed. If both parties agree to the adoption, we will send you an Adoption Contract with an invoice. Once the invoice is paid, your pet is "on hold" for you to pick up or we can transport the pet to you during a scheduled transport. Transports are arranged for specific dates. We will discuss these dates and locations with you during the initial phone call. We are currently unable to adopt pets to RI residents.
