Adopt Pepper a Border Collie dog in Berkeley Heights, NJ (38967214)

Location:
Berkeley Heights, NJ
Description:

Meet Pepper, a stunningly handsome 5-year-old Collie mix weighing 61 lbs. Pepper was rescued from a kill shelter in Swainsboro, GA and he is very lucky to be alive. When Pepper first arrived, he was covered in tangled, compacted hair, scars, scabs, and patchy fur. He most definitely lived the entirety of his life on a chain outdoors as all his teeth are ground down from malnutrition and trying to escape his chain. Not to mention, he was covered head to toe in fleas and ticks upon arrival at HFGDR. Despite his previous circumstances, Pepper is the most loyal and forgiving dog in the world. Pepper did wonderfully with his grooming and now his once-matted coat is fully restored, luscious, and beautiful. Pepper loves exploring his foster's fenced-in backyard and going on long walks. Pepper's leash training has drastically improved, and he is now considered a pro! Pepper is very sweet and loving, making him a wonderful companion for older children. While he is crate trained, he does not need one! Not only would Pepper do well with older children, but cats too! He would however do best without any other dogs in the home. Pepper can't wait to be a part of a forever home that's just as sweet as he is. He deserves the absolute best in his forever home after all that he has gone through. Pepper is neutered, up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccinations, and microchipped. Given the conditions Pepper originated from, upon rescue, he tested positive for Anaplasmosis. Thanks to Home for Good Dog Rescue, Pepper has been treated. Anaplasmosis is a tick-borne disease caused by the infectious bacterial organism Anaplasma phagocytophilum. It is transmitted through bites of the deer tick (also known as the black-legged tick) and western black-legged tick. A two to four week course of antibiotics is needed for treatment and the prognosis for clinical recovery is excellent. **Please note: completing an "adoption inquiry" via Adopt-a-pet/Petfinder does not constitute an HFG Dog Rescue adoption application.
