Sweet Duke's story: I was rescued from a rural Texas shelter where my former "owner" discarded me because of "too many dogs" on the property. The "too many dogs" consisted of a small army of resource guarding Chihuahuas who attacked him over food and bit his ears until they were bloody. Instead of feeding the dogs separately the owner flung food out on the ground and let the dogs "work it out". Not only was Duke beat up, he had 2 tickbourne diseases that we treated him for. Poor Duke just stood there and took it. He's a black, male pitbull who made it out of Texas to a wonderfully loving foster home via SSDR. He’s getting those nails trimmed tonight and we’re all so excited! He still hates going outside and just about refuses when it’s raining out but we get less and less accidents in the house each day. We’re still learning what is ok to chew on and what is not, he looooves chewing on soft/fuzzy things like pillows and blankets but with a little redirecting he’ll happy trade for a toy.
