Adopt Oscar a Brindle Basset Hound / Mixed (short coat) dog in Charlottesville

Location:
Charlottesville, VA
Description:

My name might be Oscar, but I am no grouch! I'm a happy little guy, a classic Basset Hound, just 8 months old. I came to BROOD after my owner moved and couldn't take me with her. Like any young pup, I have lots of energy and will need a family willing to help me learn proper doggie manners.I'm working hard on house training and doing pretty well for a fellow my age. I'm crate-trained and sleep soundly through the night until my family wakes in the morning. I love, and I mean LOVE, people! I'm a constant shadow and always right next to my family, wherever they may go. I'd be a great companion for someone who works from home.I currently take daily medication for "separation anxiety," but the more I adjust to my foster home, the more it seems like I just get super excited around my people and can't control myself. When my family leaves, I'm a good boy-no barking, howling, or carrying on. But when they come back, even if only gone a few moments, it's game on! I'm so happy to be with them again that I express my love by jumping, barking, and generally making a total fool of myself. I need to learn a better way to show my happiness without making my family a bit bonkers!I get along great with other dogs but would be totally fine as an only dog as long as my family is around most of the time. But if you might like another dog, consider my brother, Harvey. He is also up for adoption with BROOD. We can be adopted together or separately. I enjoy children, but my level of excitement can be a lot to handle, so I'd do best in a home without young kids. I do enjoy playing in the yard, but I'm much happier being inside where the people are!I need a patient and loving adopter who is willing to invest time in training and understands the challenges of my overexcitement. I crave human attention and wouldn't do well if left alone a lot. Another dog in the house could help me burn off energy and provide companionship, but I'll be content as an only dog if my human is around a lot.I've got a sweet soul and will make a wonderful family dog; I just need a little growing up first! Please contact BROOD today to learn more about adopting me and give me the loving home I deserve. My adoption fee is $300.00.**Only BROOD-approved adopters can meet a dog (no exceptions). Our adoption application is on the BROOD website at https://brood-va.org/adoptionapp/. We adopt to residents of Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, DC, Delaware, and southern Pennsylvania. Do not apply to adopt from BROOD if you live in another state. We require a virtual home visit and a veterinary reference. The age of many BROOD dogs is unknown, as very few come with official records. The estimate on the dog's age is usually the initial estimate given by the receiving shelter, which may be different from that given at the time of the initial checkup. Different veterinarians may also give different ages, and those different opinions are sometimes reflected on the record. ***BROOD's adoption fees are determined based on the age of the dog. 05/18/2024
