Animal Profile: Remi is an estimated 3-year-old 42 lb spayed female shepherd mix who was found as a stray in Texas along with her buddy Willow and taken in by one of our rescue partners. She is friendly with dogs and people. We will share more about her as we get to know her in foster care. Foster Update: Our time with Remi has been fantastic so far! She's a super sweet and mellow dog with no bad habits to speak of. While she can be a little nervous at first, she is generally happy to meet new people, warms to them quickly, and never growls or acts aggressively. Remi is calm while in the house and will spend time voluntarily lounging in her crate, making her a great work-from-home companion. However, what she really loves is to get outside for walks as much as she can. It appears she had no leash training prior to her arrival, but she is learning quickly. As she gets better on a leash, I could see her being a great companion for someone who wants to take a dog on long walks, hikes, and runs. We haven't had her around small kids yet, but based on how sweet, mellow, and gentle she is with adults, we expect she'll do well with kids. We have a lot of city wildlife in our neighborhood (rabbits, squirrels, crows, etc.) and when she sees squirrels and bunnies, the prey drive kicks in and she really wants to give chase, so she will need continued work on leash training, and the jury is out on how she will do with cats in the home. Remi is both crate and potty-trained. She does well in the car and is up to join you for errands or adventures. What Remi loves most is attention! Having someone pet her, scratch behind her ears, rub her chest... better than any food you can offer. She also loves being outside and we highly recommend that wherever she goes they have a nice fenced yard. Adoption Info: Adoption fee is $550 which includes spay/neuter, core vaccinations per AVMA standards, heartworm test if applicable, microchip with registration, and health certificate. Your adoption fee may be tax deductible as DGS is a 501c3 organization. All adoption fees go toward the care of all dogs in our rescue.
