AKC registered has nothing to do with whether the dog is able to go into
the show ring or not. It takes many other factors as well to determine if
a dog is suitable for the show ring. I have many show ring Champions and
potential champions but this little guy is not show quality as anyone who
knows Pekingese can explain. He is well-bred and has champions in his
pedigree, but he is pet or companion quality in the USA. Other countries
show dogs like him and consider them to be worthy of becoming champions.
Not so in the United States. As a pet quality purebred AKC registered dog
he should not be used for breeding and I require spaying or neutering for
all non-show quality puppies or dogs. If he wasn't already neutered he
would be required to be neutered by the new owner immediately. If you are
looking for a Peke you can show you not only need him or her to be
registered with AKC or another kennel club, you need him or her to be show
quality, and of course to be shown he or she must be intact. You should
expect to pay at least $1,500 to $10,000 for a show quality Peke unless it
has been retired from showing and breeding. Many people enjoy owning show
quality Pekes even though they do not show or breed them. Altered show
quality Pekes prevents unwanted litters or risk of protate or uterine
cancers. Please add me as a Facebook friend and join my Peekaboo Pekingese
Facebook group to meet and share everything Pekingese with people around
the world. It is fun, educational, interesting, and safe. All types of
Pekingese including Pekingese hybrids (mixed breeds) are highlighted and
everyone has a good time everyday. www.JudyThornsberry.com
