Havanese-Shih Tzu (Havashu) 10 Months Old - 100% Housebroken
1 / 2
This well behaved little man is neutered and house trained, ready for a loving home!
Gilbert is just 10 months old, 100% housebroken, goes potty on command, is piddle pad trained for when you're gone (and he's confined to a small area), underground fence trained, doggy door trained, he walks well on a leash, gets along with children/other dogs, and travels really well. Gilbert is really good at tolerating young children but does not prefer to play with them. He lives with other older dogs, a toddler and a 4-year old though! He would make the PERFECT dog for a retired or elderly person who wants a companion that is already trained and doesn't have the "problems" rescue dogs can sometimes have. Gilbert is NOT a rescue, he has been with me since he was 9 weeks old, he has been very loved and it is only with great regret that I must find him another home.Gilbert loves to be with "his person" and likes to always be in the same room as you, but he is not at all a clingy dog and is content sleeping on the floor or on the couch next to you.Gilbert is neutered and up-to-date on all his shots. The pictures are with his hair grown out two months ago. Currently he has a short puppy cut which makes him look really different! He sheds very little and is an adorable "mop" when his hair is all shaggy and long. You can't really tell from the pictures but Gilbert has a cute underbite that gives him a lot of charm to his sweet little face. He's not much of a barker but he will alert you when someone comes to the door. He fancies himself a guard dog (and takes his role seriously sitting at his master's feet and keeping a watch) but he's really more of a "sound the alarm" dog since he' so small. He's the size of a regular Yorkie but is pretty heavy for his small frame at 12 pounds. Gilbert is a very smart little guy and learns very quickly, especially if a treat is involved. He's quite good at coming to his name and will sit for a treat. He can be a bit dominant towards other dogs (he's so small but thinks he's the king) and he shouldn't be with a dog that is very territorial of its food as they might not get along so well. Because of Gilbert's naturally protective nature (Havanese and Shih Tzus were both bred to be watch dogs!) he is a little wary of new people at first, but he warms up quickly. He's good about being carried around and going into his extra-large dog kennel during the day when we're gone (his kennel is HUGE and has his piddle pad, bed, toys, food/water - but he'd do just as well confined to a small room so long as his puppy-ness didn't get him into any bad chewing situations). He prefers to sleep in the bed at night. Gilbert is a very well behaved little man that I do not want to re-home but our life situation has changed drastically and I now work very long hours (which was an unexpected change that had I known would come about I would not have gotten a new puppy) and I simply don't have the energy left to give this AWESOME little dog the attention and love he deserves. Anyone who adopts Gilbert has to sign a guarantee that if your situation changes and you cannot keep him (for any reason at all) he must be returned to me and never turned into a shelter or other adoption program. Gilbert is too good of a dog to become a "house hopper" and I only want him to go to the very best home, preferably where he's an only dog (or one of two) and will be treated like a true member of the family. I will also provide free dog sitting for him if you need to travel and cannot take him with you. I would like to stay in e-mail contact with whomever adopts him. If you have questions or would like to meet Gilbert please contact me.
