Ellie is a 1 ½ yr old Shih Tzu who weighs 8 lbs. Ellie and a cat were left behind in an apartment when someone moved out and ended up at the animal shelter. Ellie had some trauma in her former home (she had a bloodshot eye which did resolve quickly) which happens when a dog panics when restrained. Oddly enough, she loves to be carried around. We have worked with her on making grooming a happy experience by doing short grooming sessions.Ellie is still very much a pup and working on housetraining but has mastered leash walking. She is quick and will get up under your feet especially when you are preparing food.Ellie’s foster mother writes: Ellie is a petite Shih Tzu who craves direction and is observant and sensitive. Ellie should be gated or in a pen when not supervised because she still has puppy-chewing tendencies. She is okay for a short time in a crate, like traveling to the vet, but she is most relaxed in an indoor dog pen. She is not a vocal Shih Tzu and does NOT have separation distress, however, the ideal home for her would be with someone who has experience dealing with unsure dogs and is willing to continue building her confidence. She is going to make a wonderful dog for the person who is willing to invest some time, energy and love into her and does not mind adopting a “project” dog. Ellie could be an only dog or have another dog in the home who does not weigh more than 14 lbs.The adoption range for this dog is limited to NC, SC, VA and East TN. The secure fence must be 4ft or higher, with gaps no greater than 2 inches, and attached to the home - meaning you have an inside door that opens into the fenced yard. An invisible fence, enclosed patio, terrace or deck, temporary fencing, dog pens or dog lots or community shared fencing (dog park) are NOT considered secure fencing. If your fencing has "puppy pickets" (or is supplemented with garden fencing) it needs to be at least 36 inches high from the ground up AT THE LOWEST POINT. No exceptions.We are an all-volunteer organization, and in addition to saving dogs, we have other responsibilities, so we appreciate your patience and understanding during this process. Response time can take up to 5 business.Please inquire only if you are willing to come to Greensboro, NC to meet the dog after we schedule your home visit. We do not ship dogs or put them on transports.Veterinary Care: All Hart-2-Heart Rescue foster dogs are spayed/neutered, current on heartworm prevention, parvo/distemper, bordetella, and rabies vaccines, and are professionally groomed.
