Every week, an awesome volunteer couple harnesses Gunter up and takes him on a long hike with their two dogs.On the way, Gunter hangs his head out the car window, relishing the ride, sharing gusty road sniffs with his canine pals. When they reach their destination, Gunter is ready to go -- but always remembers his manners. He walks like a polite gentleman, never pulling, thrilled to be part of a pack, savoring every moment of togetherness! On the trail, Gunter greets every human he meets with tail wags and gentle lean-ins to be petted.When Gunter returns, he's tired and content. For those few hours, he's forgotten he's alone, forgotten his family had to move away and leave him, and forgotten everything he's lost. Maybe, that night, he'll have happy dreams.But in the morning, reality sets in.This healthy, five-year-old hound doesn't understand why he's here. Gunter was a FABULOUS family dog -- house trained, with excellent manners and gentle with all humans, young and old! Gunter was living his best life and conveyed his gratitude every day with loyalty and affection. Then, his military family got orders to move overseas, and Gunter wound up here. The walks keep his spirits up -- Gunter is resilient, still hopeful -- but he's lonely and sad. He's a big, sturdy guy who cries quietly in his run -- it's hard to hear over the other shelter sounds, but when you do, it breaks your heart. We know Gunter's heart is broken. PLEASE help heal Gunter's heart -- share his story, come meet him, spread the word! Let's get this gentle, affectionate, amazing guy home where he belongs.
