Adopt Loki a Gray/Blue/Silver/Salt & Pepper American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed

Indianapolis, IN

Meet Loki Boy!!! Loki is believed to be a 3 year old blue Pit Bull Terrier mix. We and the vets believe Loki likely survived distemper as a puppy as he has some lingering neurological symptoms that do not negatively affect him. He walks awkward almost like a show horse, he has a head tilt no one can really notice, and rapid movements of the eye. He was originally pulled from a city shelter's rescue only list as a puppy in very poor physical shape due to severe neglect and abandonment. He was adopted out but returned due to an incident with a friend of the child of the home. Loki had started showing some OCD behaviors in his adoptive home. He was moved to a lost-term foster home for two years but had to find a new foster due to a move. During that time, Loki was on a very high dose of Prozac to help manage his anxiety/behavioral issues as working with vets/trainers did not lead to assistance with any real results. The shelter did not want to keep him in a kennel so they sought a new foster home or foster-based rescue to pull him. Lucci's House Bully Rescue pulled him and had him in a foster home for a few months, but it was not a good fit. Loki was transferred to AHS at the end of March 2021 for additional support. He has been weaned off the Prozac and instead put on food/treats without rosemary extract as well as herbal supplements known to have a natural calming effect. Loki has been doing well on this new protocol. He is walked daily. His OCD triggers are very limited/minimal, and his reactions are easily overcome by distraction if he has any. He is much calmer and easily meets people now. Loki was failed by humans early in his life and is ready to find his forever home. Loki needs a calm, quiet (boring, if you will) environment without an overload of stimuli. He needs a home with adults only (teenage boys 15+ would be OK, but NO female teenagers). No baby talking to get his attention. He would love daily walks, a fenced-in yard, and car rides because they are fun! He needs to continue with his rosemary extract-free food and supplements (we will send a starter kit). Loki needs to be an only dog or with another very balanced, calm, non-anxious dog. Training is an ongoing process that needs to be worked on daily. New issues and opportunities arise every day that have to be addressed and/or rewarded. Continuous training is very important. You will not be alone after adopting Loki. We will forever be involved as much as you, the adopter, allow and need us to be. We understand he is a very unique case, but with the right adopter, it will be great for both you and Loki. Exercise, patience, discipline, and routine are of the essence. While he is a Lucci's House Bully Rescue dog, Animal House Sanctuary is handling all of his needs and training and, therefore, his placement. If you have any questions, please reach out to us by email at or call us at 260-355-XXXX. Adoption application and processes information can be found on our website, Name-your-price adoption with a minimum of $275. Date: 5/27/2021
