Adopt Loretta Lynn a Black - with White Catahoula Leopard Dog / Mixed dog in
Loretta Lynn came into rescue with her 4 siblings, Hank Williams, Tammy Wynette, Dolly Parton and Patsy Cline. They were originally rescued by a rescue colleague from a motel room. They were kept in crates and rarely got outside. Our colleague focuses mainly on cats though so she asked if we could take them because she wasn't getting anyone inquiring about them since most people come to her looking for cats/kittens. Of course, we were happy to help her out with the pups. Despite their rough beginnings, they received great care while with the cat rescue and also received socialization with cats, which is a great thing and something we are not able to provide. The cats loved the pups but of course, them being pups, they liked to play chase and rough house. Since they are larger pups and were getting bigger every day, the rescue decided that they needed to find permanent placement and give the cats some peace. The pups are great though and very friendly. They just want to run, play, get loved on and enjoy everything that comes with puppyhood. The pups are typical puppies who will need training. They don't know what a leash is and although they were in a crate most of their young life, they are not crate trained. They never learned what most dogs do..that the crate is for sleeping..since they practically never got out of it. They need to be brought back to basics and will require some consistency and effort to fully housebreak. They are very smart though so with a regular routine and someone willing to put in a bit of time and patience, they should learn very quickly. The pups do have a lot of energy and we think they might be catahoula/schnauzer mixes so be prepared to provide regular outlets for exercise and play. They would benefit from a fenced yard but regular leash walks and outings should also suffice, although if leash walking, they will need to learn the leash. They will need some training with manners as well but most of this is expected with puppies in general. Given that they had a bit of a difficult start in life just means that they are learning alittle later in their life than most but sometimes, that can make training even a bit easier. They definitely are eager to please and just happy go lucky. They should fit well into any home or family environment. Well socialized already but additional socialization to new places, people and things are never a bad thing and can only help them to become the best dogs that they can be. Obedience training, whether formal or on your own, also can be beneficial. Medically, the pups are in general good health and no serious issues were found on their most recent exam conducted on 7/7/22 except Loretta and Hank have been recovering from patchy hair loss, most likely due to heavy flea infestations and or possibly flea allergies (but both are resolving slowly over time and with consistent flea prevention). They are all heartworm negative but all did test positive for hookworms so we have treated everyone with a drontal plus. They may require a follow up in approx 3 weeks. Loretta Lynn weighed 36.4 pounds as of 7/7/22 and we believe they are approx 6 months old. They should mature to a larger medium to large sized dogs when fully grown. If interested in giving Loretta Lynn her forever home, please submit your interest and your adoption application via email or text ONLY to 352-215-XXXX (phone calls will not be answered or returned from this number). Loretta's adoption fee will be $175 to help cover the cost of her vetting and daily care while with us.
