She is one of our more active potatoes, and an absolute ball to play with. Maryland is full of wiggles and energy, and at 2 years old takes full advantage of time in the yard when she gets it. She does happy laps around, jumping onto our laps occasionally before quickly going back to her games. She learned fetch in minutes, bouncing at our feet while waiting for the next toss. Maryland happily takes adorable peanut butter breaks with us between her laps, and gets every last morsel! A very thorough girl, we think she would happily take on dishwashing duties in her new home.Maryland's real name is Diamond, and she was surrendered due to breed restrictions in public housing. She is described by her former guardian as both active and a couch potato, a good balance if you ask me. She is also described as independent, and preferring contact on her own terms. Her guardian reports that she barks at unfamiliar dogs but is friendly with those she knows. At the shelter she met a novel dog with hackles raised, a high flagging tail and wide eyes. She then began to skitter and offered quick bounces and spins before racing away. On another occasion when she was playing with handlers, she continued to be social with them and solicited pets and jumped up on the gate with a loose, wiggly body when another dog was brought out. She was easily moved from the gate with a treat scatter. Though she has been social at the shelter, Maryland may need time to warm up to new people based on her guardian's notes.
