Meet Penney!Look at those freckled ears!Penney is a happy-go-lucky, sweet girl who came to us through a Bissell Pet Foundation rescue. She arrived from Louisiana with her brother Snowball, who has already been adopted. Now, it's Penney's turn to find her forever home.After her arrival in New England, we noticed Penney had a "weird" gait when walking, and sometimes her hind legs would slip out when standing. Concerned, her foster mom reached out, and we quickly got her to a neurologist.The neurologist was initially perplexed but suspected canine neospora, a parasite that affects the cerebellum. Penney was put on an antibiotic to target the parasite, and she has shown significant improvement. At her last check-up, her gait was much more normal, and her foster mom has observed the same. As long as she continues to do well, no further treatment is needed.Penney adores other dogs! Her foster mom recently welcomed another foster dog, and Penney fell in love instantly (see video). She is housetrained, crates well, and is just an absolute delight.Don't let her previous diagnosis scare you. We will provide all her medical records for your vet's review if you wish.
