Adopt Sadie a Brown/Chocolate - with Tan American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed
Meet Sadie. This sweet bully girl came to our rescue thanks to the power of social media outreach and folks sharing her story. One of our foster moms saw the urgent plea for help from a NC shelter looking for a rescue for Sadie to ensure she got the TLC and medical attention she needed. Sadie was adopted from the shelter almost six years ago as a young pup and was in a stable, loving home until her owner had a stroke and returned her. Luckily, Sadie had friends at the shelter who remembered her and advocated for her care. Unfortunately, Sadie was suffering from allergies and was so inflamed and itchy that she was scratching to the point of bleeding. She needed meds and a diet change to get her back on track. On intake, Sadie went straight to the vet and was prescribed steroids, antibiotics, medicated baths, and a new diet, and she’ll get a Cytopoint shot this week. The medicated baths and meds had an immediate impact, and only three days later, we can see such an improvement! She goes back in for a recheck next week to see if the meds are working or needs a skin biopsy to help further investigate the root cause of her issues. We are thrilled with the progress we've seen, so we are very hopeful for Miss Sadie. Sadie has seamlessly settled into her foster home, where she's living with two foster parents and two young kids and is doing great! She lit up when she met the kids and is very gentle and patient with them. Sadie has such a sweet and friendly temperament and is a joyful dog with a low to moderate energy level. She has excellent house manners, loves to snuggle, and the sight of a leash brings out her larger-than-life smile and irresistible wiggles. Sadie wants to be part of the action. She loves leash walks, rides in the car, playtime, sitting for treats, rolling on her back in the grass, and snuggling. She's good with other dogs and lived with another dog in her prior home. Sadie's foster mom, Nicole, checked in with this update: "Sadie is the most well behaved dog I have ever had the privilege of having in my home. She is so low maintenance, and is great with my kids. She’s crazy gentle and patient. She will play with toys if the kids bring them to her. If you make eye contact she will literally roll over no matter how close you are for you to rub her belly. My toddler, Logan, can pat her back while she eats or drinks and she doesn’t care." In just a matter of days after a medicated bath, meds for her skin and a better diet we have seen huge reduction in both the swelling and the redness of her skin. Updates to follow… FOSTER MOM UPDATE - 9/28/21 “Sadie is a laid back pup. I take her on a 1/4 mi walk and she’s ready to come home. We are building up her endurance, and the cooler temperatures are coming, so I’m sure that will help. She’s strong on the leash when she gets a good scent, but otherwise she just walks normally without pulling. I can walk her with my son’s stroller at the same time. She will play with toys for about 10 seconds if the kids engage her. I PRAY she has kids in her next home. She loves the kids. She is amazing with them. My 17-month old will rub her back while she drinks water and Sadie doesn’t even care if he puts his hand near her food or in her water. She takes treats very carefully from him too. She will sit and lay down when asked and loves all humans she meets. Sadie is a low shedder, does fine with baths and blow dry, and rides well in the car. If you make eye contact with her she will get up and come over for rubs. She never tires of affection. When I go upstairs without her or leave the house she howls. Even if the kids are here she will cry. She’s not destructive. She doesn’t pace and hasn’t chewed anything or had an accident while I’m gone. Oh she snores like a 400lb man who needs a cpap machine to sleep. It’s her only downfall I’ve found so far. Other than that, she’s quiet and doesn’t bark at all in the house. She's really improved on walks with a little practice and meeting other dogs. I think she’d do fine with a proper introduction to living with another dog who is low key like herself. She’s honestly the easiest dog I’ve ever had. I think she will make a wonderful addition to any family. She may need a little patience learning to navigate other dogs but she’s worth it.” If you want to learn more about Sadie, apply today! We plan to bring her to N. VA mid Oct.
