Adopt Toby a Black Labrador Retriever / Mixed dog in Annapolis, MD (25940616)
TOBY is a 10-year-old neutered male black labrador. Toby weighs 70 lbs and is up to date on shots. This dog is approved for homes with kids ages ten and up. DESCRIPTION: Toby is a sweet, well-mannered and very smart boy. He is a attractive and gentle, with exquisite white markings and a sweet smile. He is very spry for age ten and is a true gem! He does well on leash and knows sit, shake, fetch and laydown. He loves walks, car rides (he jumps right in) and hanging out with you at home. He is highly trainable and is food-motivated. Toby also has excellent house manners. He takes treats gently, is house-trained and sleeps through the night on a dog bed in his foster's bedroom. He was well-behaved during a large family dinner, lying down in the middle of the crowd and sleeping on the floor away from the table during dinner. Three 8 yr old boys were wrestling during the gathering, and he ran over and licked 1 of their ears:) The boys pet him for about fifteen minutes while Toby sat or laid down to enjoy their attention. He does not jump up and sits next to his human friends to absorb the petting. If you stop petting him, he gently places his paw on your lap and may give you a quick lick. He does well in the crate, and does even better with toys to keep him occupied. He does well for baths, and especially enjoys being towel-dried. Toby really likes being an inside dog -- he will go out in the yard but after a few minutes goes to the door to come inside again. Toby would love to find out what it is like to be able to spend his senior years with a family that will love and care for him every day. They will get a truly grateful, loving dog. He'd be the perfect dog to take along on adventures because his loyalty and loving personality will put smiles on any family that calls him theirs. UPDATE: Toby is really great on a leash, with a collar or harness. He is gentle and reserved. If someone doesn’t want to pet him (a non pet lover) he accepts their “rebuff” and leaves them alone. He will not get up on the furniture. He is an independent gentleman who is cautious until he knows that he can trust you. Then, he will come to you regularly for head rubs and when he’s satiated with affection he walks away and lets you go about your business! He is quite energetic for his age and enjoys going on a 3-mile run every day. He runs well on leash, and is friendly to other dogs during his run. He can also chill out, relaxing and sleeping at his foster's feet during TELEVISION time. He does not beg for food at the table and understands to stay away from the table during meals. He is well-mannered with his humans, and knows how to sit and give handshakes. Toby has exquisite markings and his teeth are pearly white. He is an wonderful, attractive guy who likes belly rubs. He was very tolerant of being bathed and vigorously towel dried. Toby is definitely a people-dog, and is affectionate and wants to be constantly with his humans. He gets along with the resident Golden Retriever and ignores the grouchy resident labrador. The 3 dogs do well together on walks. Toby sleeps in the master bedroom on his dog bed (which came with him). He does not like to sleep in the crate at night if he is separated from his people. He will go in his crate to eat his meals and occasionally goes in it to sleep with the door open. He does not like being separated from you in the house, but he does well when left alone in a room at the house when his fosters are gone. He can be trusted to have the run of the house without a crate. This dog is available for adoption from Labrador Rescue LRCP.
