Adopt Webster a Black - with Tan, Yellow or Fawn Australian Cattle Dog / Mixed

Paso Robles, CA

Webster, 7 yrs., neutered, WEBSTER is back! He was in his adoptive home for six months! Everything was “wonderful” Webster is “wonderful”. His owner adores him still, but, he went after the cat. Seriously he didn’t want the cat rubbing on him anymore… Cat was there first Webby. Webster is about 5 years old and a very healthy, small cattle dog mix, he’s about 40 lbs, he's lost weight here, and could lose a couple and look great! His teeth are the teeth of a younger dog. Maybe he is? Webster seemed to have found his niche in a San Fransico apartment. He was surprised and sad to be back in rescue, no longer center of attention. I’m skipping over a lot of history. Since I first met Webster in November of 2020. And getting to the bottom line in describing the right home for this little dog. If Webster had a nice normal Human! A pack leader. Someone who knows what’s going on by feeling it. And able to resist Websters charm! He is a dog! He’s a pushy little guy and he tries to get as much privilege as possible, right from the get go! You don’t allow a dog to do this. They gain privilege slowly. Make him sleep on the laundry porch for a week, then a room closer to you. But always exercise your power to say, “go lie down”, and he will leave the room and go to his bed. This is hard, but necessary. Web is so much more comfortable and balanced when someone is telling him every little thing to do or not do! It’s exercise for his brain and he loves to work for you. He respects it! Commands to sit, lie down, get in the car, and DON’T get out of the car! I can stop Webby in mid air while jumping out of the van on our hike, and I do it, just for practice, and he can show me what a good boy he is. This dog is extremely obedient, he’s impressive. One simply has to maintain their status as HUMAN and his as DOG. And then Webster can really be in any situation there is. It totally depends on how savvy his person is, as he is with me. I’m not talking cruelty or a constant cold shoulder. Just no unearned affection. Nothing over the top, no demonstrations of undying love, and Webster will revere you for life His fantasy life would be a travel dog! Someone who basically lives life on the road. Out of a suitcase and hotel or RV. He’s perfect for this life. Webster is the best co-pilot. And he loves it. He does great in new places, quiet and polite. He would be a pro road dog! If he was in your vehicle or with your stuff in a motel room, he’s secure in the knowledge, you’ll be back, and he watches your stuff. For a normal home-life in one setting Webster probably needs the following: 1. One person! Webster has chosen sides, usually the woman. His divide and conquer plan has some flaws. Maybe if he had thumbs he could carry out his intentions. 2. No children please. He thinks fat little naked calves are just perfect to nip! Another dog or two would be great, confident dogs though. Webster does well with others of all sizes and ages. But he needs a top dog, and that is his human! He worships my 100 lb 9 yr old male Romeo. So a mentor dog would be great. 3. Maybe no cats... maybe. I thought he could be trusted. He didn’t like the cat in his adoptive home, making amorous advances, but if Webster has the right human, the stink eye or sharp tone would halt any thought of trouble while he got used to his new feline friend. 4. An adopter who like walks or hikes, and he loves water and the beach! Webster LOVES to go. This dog won’t stop if you don’t. 5. A secure yard or no yard. If left unsupervised Webster will try to escape a yard to be with you. So until he’s bonded and at home, no unsupervised time in a yard. He’s very well house trained. Non destructive. But Webster needs someone committed to keeping him safe and supervised for a couple weeks, just until he forms an attachment! And the, you couldn’t lose him unless you could outrun him! He is totally comfortable in my yard with the other dogs while I do my house things. He is not going to be inside on a beautiful day. If you are a single person, and see yourself so... and want some loyal, low maintenance company, Webster could be your guy. He loves to the road. Loves his walks! And loves the most, being with his person. Webster loves his wire crate with his bed pad in it. Door is never closed, he retires himself! I know he’s got mixed feelings about being here now. He used to have the run of this place, but he’s the new kid in town for now. Webster does not understand why he’s in a yard not inside. But, he quit whining about it pretty quick. He knows the program here. He’s accepting. Webster comes with his bed, collar, lots of toys and accouterments. Everything Webster. And of course he is neutered, fully vaccinated and micro-chipped.
