Max is 9 months old and weighs 19 lbs. Max is friendly with other dogs, but it takes him a few days to warm up to new pup friends. He does better with larger dogs than him because Max has a bit of a Napoleon attitude, probably because him and his sister had to fend for themselves on the street for some time. Max would do well in a house with another dog that is confident and bigger than he is. Max tries to compete for food, and this is why it is better to feed him alone in his crate. We think that with time and a stable home, he will learn that no one will steal from his plate! Otherwise, Max is a great boy. He is crate and potty-trained. He needs more leash-walking and training so he can gain more confidence. We are unsure about how he behaves with cats because there are no kittens in his foster home. Rescue story: Max and Layla were found abandoned in a park in North Houston. Thankfully, they were rescued and taken to a foster home. Max is up to date on vaccinations and is spayed or neutered. (puppies under the age of 6 months may not be sterilized prior to adoption, if this is the case your adoption coordinator will discuss the process with you). All breeds listed are educated best estimates by transferring shelter staff, our volunteers or our vets. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them the All American MUTT. Our dogs are rescued from various situations (kill-shelters, owner surrenders, strays, etc). It is most likely that both their parents were strays and mixes of some sort. If you are interested in this dog, you MUST submit an application. Sandy Paws Rescue does not a have a public shelter in Mass, so there is no building you can visit without an appointment. Our dogs live in private foster homes or boarding kennels down south until adopted, and foster care homes through out MV, Cape Cod and other parts of MA. A majority of our dogs are adopted/spoken for prior to transport and release from state mandated isolation.
