We sell our puppies for the same price, or lower, than other breeders with the tax already included in the price. If you are looking at a puppy from a breeder who does not charge you sales tax, or state the tax is included in the price you pay, they are operating illegally within the State of GA. Rule 560-12-2-.55 The tax does not apply to charges for the keep of pets. Operators of kennels, stables and pet shops are required to pay the tax on purchases of tangible personal property used in such operations. Ask for proof of their sales tax number. They should be able to supply you with a GA sales tax number. Sales tax numbers may be verified using the Sales Tax ID Verification Tool available through the Georgia Tax Center.
