Butternut Squash can’t wait to meet you! This sweet and playful girl is very smart and very precious! We are thinking pretty Butternut is a Rat Terrier mix. Butternut is an unassuming, sweet puppy, with a slight shy side. Everyday she is learning more about the world and building her confidence, but will need some extra practice and may never be a social butterfly out and about. At home, she is a spunky, playful pup who plays well with other dogs, seems ok with cats, and loves being in her yard playing with toys and bones. She is a sweet and gentle girl, and also (*BONUS*) loves her crate! With every visit she has with respectful children, s he is building her confidence. We think she could enjoy living as an only dog, or with another playful pup as well as with older, respectful kids who will go at her pace. Butternut loves toys and is happy to chill with a ball when not playing with you! She is starting to pick up on fetch, but she mainly loves squeaky toys and running around with them or bringing them all on the couch! She is doing well with house training and is continuing to practice her leash skills and confidence when out in the big world. She would prefer walks in areas that are quiet without too much traffic. She is a smart girl and basic group training classes is recommended to help her learn commands, socialize and build confidence with other humans and dogs, as well as build that fur-ever bond with you! Butternut would love to find a forever family that has lots of time and and energy to raise a puppy properly, the patience to go at her pace, and time for extra loving and cuddles. Squash Pups’ story: Their pregnant mom was found as a stray. A loving family took her in where she had her litter. They are now living with a loving foster family and doing great! Medical Note: This dog is being treated/has been treated for demodectic mange, a non-contagious skin condition. The dog has responded well to this treatment and is ready for adoption, though may still have some bald patches and/or thin fur in places. Please note that demodex can flare up in any dog in times of stress (eg, transport, transition to a new home, change in food, etc). As such, the adopter is advised to discuss this condition and best next steps with their veterinarian. SOS recommends that dogs with a history of demodectic mange be kept on regular NexGard or Bravecto for flea/tick prevention for at least 3 months after adoption for adults or until 18 months of age for puppies.
