Location: Springvale, MaineAGE: 6/2/2017 (estimate)Meet Smokey! Smokey was taken in from his local shelter, and now is learning the good life.He's a low energy fellow but can be a bit dominant with other dogs. He was fending for himself for a while, so not surprising, he does guard his food around other dogs - can you blame him? But when other dogs aren't around, he can be hand-fed and takes treats very gently. His foster momma says he gets a wiggle-butt when he gets excited. He does fine with women but is more wary of men. He needs slow introductions to men. Smokey recently was around an 8 month old baby who his foster momma was holding. The baby was picking flowers and Smokey gently “smelled them” and then he so carefully took them from her hands and made a cute little pile of flowers on the ground. His very own bouquet for her. He was enjoying the baby-time so much he refused to go inside for a water break.Smokey has some serious FOMO lol. If he knows one of the other dogs is getting some attention, or they are out of the crate and he is still in his crate, he can become quite vocal. You won’t misunderstand that he wants attention, too!Aside from guarding his food, he really needs to live with other calm dogs. He has a little separation anxiety but is calmer when other dogs are present. He does sometimes get annoyed though if the other dogs are too exuberant. No cats for Smokey.Did I mention that this boy spent a fair amount of time in the shelter? Based on what his foster momma has seen, he's probably had no previous training. He is doing well in a crate when he needs to be left. He actually seems to like his crate quite a bit. He goes there at bedtime on his own and snuggles in for the night. And he's potty trained and doing great on a leash. Nails? Not an issue - he lets his foster momma trim his nails easily. Smokey Boy loves going on car rides so take him with you to run your errands! And give him a Kong filled with frozen bone broth and chicken, and he's a happy boy. He likes a good Nylabone to chew on too. And fruit! Sounds like a health nut, huh!Smokey is a loving boy looking for a family to return the love. This boy loves to cuddle! He will squeeze his big head between your arm and body and just rest there forever.
