Martin has a bit of a sad story- he was found abandoned on a street corner, locked in a crate. Luckily, he was found and is safe in the shelter now- and the good news is that dogs are amazingly resilient. Martin still loves people and has a happy, optimistic outlook on life. While he appreciates the reliable meals and soft bed, he really would prefer to spend his days in a home with a family of his own. That’s where you come in! Martin is a friendly, sweet dog who walks well on leash and really enjoys strolls in the fresh air and sniffing all of the interesting smells along the way. Here’s what a few of his volunteer friends have had to say:“Martin has such joyful puppy-like spirit! He has beautiful markings like a cow and an exuberantly happy tail. He has very funny zoomies as he gets out some of his pent-up energy. He’s very good with `sit` and `look`. He also comes when called- for a treat of course. A super happy guy who is a lot of fun and just oozes joy! It`s hard not to smile back when you look at his smiling face.”“Today was my first time taking Martin out (I called him MarTEEN and he seemed to like it - actually he was indifferent but I think it suits him.) We went to the play yard because of the heat, where he did some zoomies. I am fond of this guy and he has some of the best ears around this town!!”“This was my first time walking Martin. He was up on the gate as I approached, but dropped to the floor and was calm as I entered. On our walk, Martin stopped to check all the scents and lick the water off the grass. We passed a number of barking dogs, but other than capturing his attention for a moment he exhibited little reactivity. He loved exploring the shoreline, eagerly searching for lizards and chasing birds out of the bushes. We had to wait for a moment returning to the shelter to allow other dogs to pass, and he gave a solid sit and took some high value treats with a gentle mouth and good eye contact. Martin is an intelligent and energetic dog who needs a little work on his leash manners, but he is attentive, treat motivated, and will be a quick learner. A fine dog for an active individual or family.”Martin is a people- oriented guy and has been a bit unsure when meeting other dogs in playgroup. So, he’d like to meet any resident dogs before heading home to make sure it’s a good fit. Please ask to meet Martin today!
