What a busy rat terrier Jilz has been in her (almost) 4 years of life! She has had at least three litters of puppies (the last one resulted in 11 healthy babies!), surgery to pin some badly broken bones, a subsequent surgery to remove those pins, and a painful course of heartworm treatment. Now all that trauma is behind her, and she's ready to enjoy a healthy, love-filled, puppy-free, active life. Jilz can't decide whether her favorite activity is snuggling with her humans, getting belly rubs, chasing squirrels, going for walks, or receiving yummy treats. Any of those terrific activities results in excited wagging of her little nub of a tail. At 27 lbs., Jilz is a bit big for a lap dog, but fortunately she's content to cuddle close beside you rather than right on top of you. She'll go from zero to 60 in seconds if she sees a critter that needs chasing (and she tends to view cats as critters needing chasing), but then she'll settle down easily once the coast has cleared. Jilz responds very reliably whenever her name is called...unless her focus has been hijacked by a squirrel. Since she's young and active with a great zest for life, Jilz requires a home where she has ample opportunity to run and play off leash in a safely fenced area, preferably with another dog or two. She's close to mastering 'sit' and 'wait,' and her house-training has been perfect when she has access to the dog door; without it, she's very reliable as long as she gets reasonable opportunities to go out. Her other house manners are a work in progress. She's working hard to resist things like inspecting the contents of trash cans, picking up and nibbling interesting objects off low tables, sneaking past you for a peek in the garage, and jumping up to let you know how dearly she loves attention. Jilz doesn't intend to be naughty, but life offers too many fascinating things to explore! This happy girl is so eager to be your loyal companion.
