Meet Lainey. This sweet baby has spent all her young life outside, chained to a tree. Her owners recently purchased two German Shorthaired Pointers that they need to “train up,” most likely for hunting. All their dogs live outside, but the GSPs are allowed to roam free, while poor Lainey lived confined. They said they didn’t have the time for her, so they posted her on FB for a free giveaway. Thankfully, a local animal advocate saw the post and took action to save Lainey from that terrible life. We stepped up to help and found a foster mom, Johanna, the very next day. Johanna is our team’s Beagle/Hound enthusiast who always goes above and beyond. After just getting home from a trip, she hopped in her truck and drove the 2 hours to Greenwood, SC to free Lainey and bring her home. Lainey spent her first night with Johanna snuggled up on the couch, finally experiencing the love of family and the warmth and comforts of home. Our vet thinks Lainey is 9 to 12 months old, a young, healthy pup, and heartworm-negative! She’s an amazing dog, and it’s hard to believe she’s been tied out her whole life. She’s living with Johanna, her husband and teenage daughter, 4 dogs, and 2 cats, and has done very well as part of their pack. She was reserved at first but is coming out of her shell and is a naturally sweet, good-natured girl. She LOVES being inside…who can blame her? We checked in with Johanna for a first-week update: “Lainey is a really amazing dog and just so sweet and adorable. She’s equally attentive to dogs and humans. I think she would be fine with another dog or as an only dog too. She likes playing with Cherry, but would also rather snuggle with me on the couch. Her energy level is pretty low-key, except when playing with Cherry. We had a few people over the holidays, and she did just fine. No barking. She is evenly affectionate with me and my husband and is just a really good girl. She’s good with dogs and cats, shares well, isn’t food-aggressive, and already knows ‘sit.’ She would actually make an easy first dog for someone. She may need some potty training in a new place, but I think she’s really smart. She’s crate-trained and may whine for a few minutes but will settle in and sleep calmly through the night. I trust her inside without the crate too. I’ve left her out of the crate at night twice, and she slept with me. I’ve left her loose in the house several times, and she’s been fine. I’ve not left her alone, though - she’s always with another dog. I took her to the holiday market today, and she did great. She didn’t jump on anyone or anything. She let men, women, and children approach and pet her. The noise of a chainsaw didn’t bother her. She was friendly walking past other dogs but not overly interested. She pulled on the leash when excited, but not awful. She wanted to get over to the food trucks. She really wants affection from people the most. So someone who’s going to let her in their lap or beside them on the couch to snuggle. Kids for that would be fine. She appears more confident when she’s with another dog, but I don’t think she necessarily needs one in the home with her. I think she’ll be completely potty trained before she leaves. Otherwise, patience while that improves.” Lainey is a very sweet, gentle, social girl who longs for companionship and snuggle time. As a young dog, she’ll need a daily commitment to walks and exercise but has a moderate energy level overall. She’s a smart pup who learns quickly and aims to please her human. Apply today!
