We are grateful to the Fredericksburg Nationals for sponsoring Tomoka's adoption fee as the September FredNats/Fred SPCA MVP (Most Valuable Pet)! Tomoka is a patient, loving soul who is looking for a human companion to make a soul connection with! She made the long journey all the way from Florida last October to escape the hurricane disaster but now she is settled down in Virginia and loving life! She learned "sit," "touch," and "down," and loves to learn cues and tricks with our Behavior Coordinator because she is super treat-motivated! She is a lover and a cuddle bug and once you get to know her don't be surprised if she climbs into your lap for kisses. At 5 years old, she is a favorite office dog around the shelter because she is so chill and laid back - plus she has the ‘most adorable teefers' with her goofy grin. The staff loves that Tomoka tells them when it's time to go potty! She would be great in a home that would welcome her gentle soul. She gets stressed in her kennel at the shelter with so many people walking by and can sometimes jump up and bark, which has made people think she is not the loving lady we describe here. It's normal for dogs in shelter environments to exhibit this kind of kennel reactivity when they have such little to themselves and their safe space is a constant source of interruption. Ask one of our team members to meet Tomoka and you'll see how much of a potato she is outside of the chaos of the kennels!
