Meet Finn This uber cute puppy has known tremendous heartache and fear in his early life but since he's been with us, he is thriving! He was so timid and frightened when he first arrived but Finn is full of confidence now! He is a handsome boy, thought to be a retriever mix, but it's hard to know. He has a gorgeous blue/black coat with undermarkings similar to a Catahoula leopard dog. Finn also has a naturally docked tail. Finn is a snuggly little boy who can also be a ball of energy and movement. Finn loves to go for car rides and off site hikes, especially with his best friend Oliver. He has recently been taken to local events and he charms everyone he meets, then settles in for a nice snuggle with his person. Finn is an amazing little puppy who deserves so much more than growing up in a shelter. All adopters must complete an approval process which involves a reference check with a current/recent vet and a brief home visit if located in the immediate area. We do permit out-of-state adoptions. Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. We do not ship, nor do we transport them to their new homes. Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a No kill shelter. Animals in our care remain safe with us until adopted. Resident animals are primarily owner relinquished and also rescued from local and area Animal Controls. The facility usually operates at capacity with a list of animals waiting for space to open. Adoptions and meet and greets are scheduled by appointment only. Complete an application and someone will be in touch just as soon as they can. An application doesn't commit you or us to an adoption, but it allows our coordinator to begin the review process. The form also assists us with assessing the environment for suitability and safety in the placement of our residents. The application is the first step in the approval process, followed by veterinarian reference check, landlord approval confirmation if relevant and a home visit which may be done physically or virtually depending on the distance from the shelter. The approval process can be initiated either before or after a visit to the shelter to visit our residents. The forms will be automated for online submission through a new website currently under construction with an anticipated launch date of no later than Nov 2016. Requirements for adoption are specific to the needs of the animal in addition to standard checks for safety issues. Adopters must come to the shelter once approved to take their adopted pet home. We do not ship nor do we transport. Submitting the form is neither a guarantee of adoption nor an entitlement to "first come,first served" in the selection process of safely and appropriately placing our residents. Decision to approve/not approve an adopter(s) is based on the needs of the dog, not the needs of the adopter. The application should be downloaded before printing. The process usually takes 1 to 3 business days but can be slowed by not completing all of the questions, difficulty in reaching people relevant to approval and scheduling a home visit. Our residents must be returned to us at any point in time if the adoption is no longer suitable/safe for the pet or circumstances have changed to where a new home is needed. A contract must be signed to complete the adoption process. Standard fees for dogs are $100 and for cats $85. Some fees are subsidized in various amounts as low as $25 (minimum allowed subsidized fee) for dogs and $20 (minimum allowed subsidized fee) for cats . All of our animals are spay/neutered, have age appropriate vaccines and are free of internal parasites. Dogs are tested for heart worms and put on monthly prevention. We are closed on Mondays, and Wednesday, Operating hours are Tuesdays,Thurs-Friday 10-4pm Sat 10-4 and Sun 1-4.
