Amigo is a Dobie mix we took in just over a year ago, in January, 2023. He had charmed his animal shelter advocates with his friendly, silly behavior, and initially we found him delightfully friendly also. There were moments however, Amigo would behave like a guard dog if people approached his kennel, and we began to wonder if he was actually a danger. This behavior seemed most prevalent when he was inside his doghouse. He was an absolute delight 99% of the time but he had moments where his behavior was difficult to read. Then, one day, our volunteer dog-walkers marched in and leashed him for a walk, and he behaved like a silly pup who smiles. We still aren't sure if there are moments when he can be defensive or not but we think he may just need someone experienced that can read his cues and understand when not to pressure him. We're seeking an adult home for him without a lot of challenges with folks who are willing to give him a chance. Amigo is about 3 years old, dog-social, and weighs about 65 pounds.Adoption processWe ask that you bring the whole family (including the four legged) so we can best match you with the right dog. Once you have found your new companion we will have you fill out a one page adoption agreement. All dogs go home spayed or neutered, vaccinated, micro-chipped, with a collar, and ID tag. Our donations for dogs may vary depending on gender, age, breed and medical needs. Generally our male Dobermans are $250-300 with possible flexibility for seniors. Our female Dobermans are generally a $350 donation, due to the fact that it is more difficult for us to get spay appointments and therefore, we are paying more for those surgeries at other vet clinics. We have to ask more just to make ends meet for now. Little dogs and non-Dobermans are still generally a $200 donation.Shelter locationWe are located on a small ranch nestled in the orchards of Fillmore, ca. We are open every saturday from 11:00am-3:00pm for open house adoptions as long as you have an approved application. We have to keep visitors to a minimum due to the pandemic. We can arrange weekday or sunday visits by appointment as well.
