Xander is currently our longest on and off resident at WAG but one of our best dogs. He is a lab mix, almost 4 yrs old now and weighs about 55 lbs. He first came to WAG in August of 2021. He was feisty and energetic and was eventually adopted early in January 2022. He was then returned in May of 2022 due to being overly protective of his home from strangers. His "stranger danger" had been a roadblock in his adoption. We have since learned that Xander really loves humans but needs a proper introduction outside of his home or without a barrier before he accepts them. Once he meets someone, he never forgets them. Now that he is almost 4, he is a pretty laid back boy. He has had many other disappointments over the last few years and due to his barrier reactivity, people shied away from him. Once we understood his issues, it became easier to find him a good home. He was recently adopted last fall. Unfortunately, he enjoys chasing moving vehicles like bikes and cars and this was not good behavior for the RV park he was living in so, sadly, he is now back with us. Other than that, Xander is a fantastic dog! Xander is loyal, loving and affectionate. He is great with all animals. He has been in a farm environment and was not fazed by any of the farm animals, big or small. His nickname has always been "Uncle Xander" because he was so good with all of the many puppies that he helped to guide and socialize. He is totally non-reactive to all animals. He has always been good on a leash and happy to play a little or just lounge in the sun. He's great in a car. He simply loves to belong and be around his people. He might make a great farm companion for someone. He also loves to snuggle, get attention and keep you company on the couch! He will need a fenced yard / property to keep him from chasing vehicles on the road. If you are looking for a wonderful mature companion, have animals that need a great friend or mentor and have a securely fenced property and lots of love for this guy, please consider meeting this even-tempered, gem of a guy! You won't be disappointed.
