Meet Stitch! Stitch is approximately 10 months old and weighs in at just under 40lbs. Stitch was born with a congenital defect in his spine which affected the use of his back legs. He underwent spinal surgery on February 1st and is currently doing PT exercises daily in the home and weekly at the Whole Animal Gym learning to use his hind legs the correct way! He will need on-going physical therapy to become the best that he can be. He gets around very well on grass and loves yard time. When on other surfaces he can still get around, just a bit more awkwardly. He wears a special harness to support him and those wonky legs. At this time we avoid walks on concrete/blacktop because that causes sores on his hind toes. Due to this, a home with a grassy yard would be best for him to get his daily exercise. Stitch is crate trained. He will dive right in for a treat or stuffed kong, and is quiet as a mouse. He currently sleeps in his crate all night long, without a peep! Stitch is also house trained. He will alert you when he needs to do his business. He will need your assistance to support his hind end for this activity so he doesn’t fall into it, but that is where that special harness comes in handy! He is dog friendly, and would do great with another tolerant dog, his play style is very much rough and tumble. He loves to play in the yard and will happily charge right into his dog friends (his brakes don’t work too well yet). His favorite time of the day is meal time. If there is food involved this guy is your man! He is fed using a slow feed bowl because, well, food. It helps him to savor every bite! He can be a little mouthy when over-stimulated, we are working on that and his manners are improving daily! He has done well with older kids. He sat calmly for pets and shoulder rubs. He would likely do well with younger kids too.Adoption processPuppies under 6 months of age must be placed in a home with another young, playful dog within 2 hours of Philadelphia. We typically do not place female dogs in homes with other female dogs.
