I adopted the mother (brown) when she was 8 months old from a veterinarian who got a divorce and was unable to keep her; however we created a contract so we would have one litter within five years so she could choose a pup when she was back on her feet, we are fulling that contract now. We intended to AI the mother but after falling in love with this breed we brought the father home, I adopted the father when we ten months old in Nebraska. This breed has proven to be very good with protecting against predators. When given a task and space this breed will rival any guardian breed, which can be noted throughout Luis and Clark diary.
