Avena and Aura are the dynamic duo of a lifetime. Aura is the protector of her little sister-friend Avena. They were picked up by animal control off the side of the road in Harrison County. These two have been inseparable since then. Aura LOVES to sit on the top of her dog house, while Avena watches her from the ground nearby. Aura and Avena are a pair, a diamond in the rough. While they seem to be inseparable, these girls would benefit from a home together or a home apart. They are playful, happy, active girls who love tennis balls, running, and playing near the water. They are a one-of-a-kind-pair in this atypical world.There is a 'slumber party' program which allows you to take a dog home before adopting to see if they are a good fit for your family. There is no cost or commitment for this - the supplies are provided for you, you provide the love! Not sure which pet you're interested in? Each year HSSM houses approximately 7,000 homeless pets. Every day we are fighting a space capacity crisis as we try to care for the overwhelming amount of abandoned local pets. Please consider visiting our shelter to adopt your next best friend. If you have a question about one of our adoptable animals, please give us a call at (228) 863-XXXX, email XXXX@hssm.org or stop by from 10am-5pm Tuesday-Friday or 10am-4pm Saturday. Walk-ins stop 30 minutes before close. The entrance is located at 2615 25th Ave in Gulfport. Come to our back parking lot through our adoptions entrance.Adoption processHSSM is home to over 300 pets on any given day, most of which are looking for new forever homes! Your new best friend could be waiting at HSSM right now. Our beautiful, 41,000 square foot facility is currently open to the public. HSSM is open for adoptions Tuesday – Friday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. No appointment is necessary to adopt, however, adoptions are first-come, first served. You must come to HSSM to complete your adoption and make sure you bring a photo ID, as it is required to complete adoption paperwork.Our adoptable animals page is self-updating and displays ALL of HSSM’s adorable adoptable pets from “pocket pets” to birds and of course the hundreds of dogs and cats currently calling HSSM home! See one you like? Make sure you note your favorite’s name and animal ID number so that HSSM staff and volunteers can easily find him/her when you come in!Adoptions are cut off every day about 30 minutes prior to closing and possibly earlier if volume is high.
