Meet Quetzalli! Quetzalli is the cutest and most enthusiastic pup! She is considered a special care animal due to our vets noticing a heart murmur. She had an echocardiogram done and she was noted to have mitral valve dysplasia, which is a common heart change. It means that one of the valves in her heart is slightly misshapen. There are no changes or problems with the chambers of the heart. Dogs with mitral valve dysplasia have a heart murmur, or sound produced due to the dysplasia, but do not often develop secondary heart disease. The cardiologist recommends a recheck echo be performed when Quetzalli is fully grown, in approximately 6-9 months. Her prognosis is very good and she is not expected to need further care or medication after her second echo. Quetzalli does not let her heart dysplasia slow her down, she is otherwise a completely normal puppy!
