Gus is located in East, TN. But if you are seeing this on adopt-a-pet, transport fees are included in the adoption fee. Out of state adopters are welcomed. Transport is available to your area in the NorthEast or Great Lakes area. We use the most animal friendly transport on the road (Rescue Riders Transport)! When Gus first came to us, he was extremely underweight, essentially hairless, and had open wounds all over his body as a result of Demodex Mange (not contagious). At the rescue, we have plumped him up to a great size and started him on appropriate flea/tick medication to treat the mange. After 2.5 months of treatment, most of his hair has returned and should continue to improve, his wounds have healed, and his skin is back to a normal color! Since he is recovering from demodex mange (not contagious), he may still benefit from a few more medicated baths to help with continued healing. His adoptive family will need to continue him on Simparica Trio (or similar flea/tick medication that treats the mites that cause mange) on a strict schedule to make sure he does not develop mange again. We think he could be a heeler mix because of the speckles but we truly still don’t have a great idea about breed. The regrowth of hair didn’t help us with this as much as we thought it would with breed ID!
