Description:

Boxer Dog for Adoption in Stanwood, Washington, 97035 USNickname: Tula Posted Breed: Boxer (short coat). Have you met Tula? She’s around 1-1/2 years old, spayed, and up to date on all of her vaccines. She is a cute petite fawn Boxer who weighs-in around 48 pounds. Tula is being fostered in Portland, OR. Tula came to MustLuvBoxers Rescue after being found by a good Samaritan while she was running through the woods. After searching for her owner for over a month, Tula was surrendered to MLBR so that she could find her furever home. When she first arrived, Tula was unsure of her new surroundings, she was reluctant to trust people and new dogs; but eventually warmed up to her foster family (two senior dogs, one female and one male.) When Tula arrived at her foster house, she showed less than desirable behavior toward the two resident dogs. Utilizing crate and rotate methods, and with patience and positive reinforcement, Tula became part of the family after only a week. She was playing with her siblings, cuddling on the couch, and is no longer showing any signs of displeasure. With time, Tula has become more comfortable with everyone in the house and learned how to read verbal and non-verbal cues from everyone, both humans and dogs. At some point in her young life, Tula had a litter of puppies. As a result of having puppies at such a young age, the vet believes Tula will remain petite in size compared to other Boxers. Tula is crate and potty trained. She quickly learned how to use the doggie doors in her foster home. Tula’s foster family thinks she may be the smartest Boxer they’ve ever met. In a matter of days, Tula can learn new tricks, words, and commands by using treats and positive reinforcement. In the short time she’s been with her foster family, she’s learned how to sit, shake, come, go to bed, and play fetch. With Tula’s rough past, she has behavior issues that are a work in progress. Tula is very reactive to dogs that she doesn’t know. Her foster family believes this can be corrected, as she shows interest in wanting to play with other dogs from afar. She also displayed some signs of separation anxiety when she first arrived at her foster family's home. Once she was with other dogs though, her anxiety diminished, and she has been left alone in her crate occasionally with no issue. Tula would greatly benefit from experienced owners and also some work with a professional dog trainer. She’s an extremely happy dog and wakes up ready for the day. She’s always wiggling her butt and thinks everything is a game. Like most young Boxers, Tula has a high energy level, is extremely athletic, and wants to be around her people. She loves to go running in the morning, and with her adventurous traits, she would make a great hiking buddy! Be aware, she’s also able to jump over 5’ tall fences and has been seen on the kitchen countertops if left alone. At the end of the day, with proper exercise, Tula is a great cuddle buddy. We believe Tula would be best suited in a house with another dog, ideally one that can continue to teach her how to be a dog and live life to the fullest. And a 6’ fenced-in yard will be a must! Tula truly is a happy go lucky sweetheart of a dog and will make a great addition to the right home. Whoever adopts her can look forward to lots of laughs and cuddles.
