Name: Ollie Best Guess for Breed: Retriever/ Chesapeake Bay Retriever Mix Best Guess for Age: 1 year as of March 2024 SEX: Male Approximate Weight: 47 lbs Gets Along With: We haven't seen Ollie with kids or cats, but he can be tested. Ollie gets along well with other dogs off leash and would do well at dog parks, but would like to be the only dog in the home. Currently Living at: DC area boarding partner Special Adoption Considerations: Ollie was heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs. All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care. After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.
