Description:

Rottweiler Mix Dog for Adoption in White Hall, Arkansas, 23321 USNickname: Bacon Posted Breed: Rottweiler / Mixed (short coat). Please contact SSRR (Adoptionssouthernstatesrescuedrottweilers) for more information about this pet. Do you want an energetic, intelligent, handsome black and brown companion who will work his way onto your lap until you invite him to stay there? Bacon might be the dog for you. “Bacon” is an approximately 11-month-old Rottweiler puppy who came into the shelter system as a severely underweight stray. As such, his scavenger drive cannot be overstated. He performs “acceptably” when people are eating in front of him – even at nose level – he begs the whole time, but waits when ordered to do so. After three weeks of regularly timed feedings, he still inhales his food, ice cubes, a nitrile glove, cat toys, and part of a wooden clothes pin. He prefers mud puddles to clean water dishes, but his first choice is running water sources – with the soul of a Gen-Xer he likes to drink hose water. Despite what he’ll tell / show you, that’s not all there is to this friendly sweetheart, and wannabe lap dog. It seems Bacon was abandoned to become a stray. He loves being around, or on top of, people. He does very well in a crate, currently taking meals, alone time, and sleeping in one, but would sleep in a bed if/when allowed. He climbs onto couches especially to sit on people, but can be led off of them without much of a fight. Bacon is extraordinarily intelligent. He responds well to training, learning some variant of new behaviors in as few as three repetitions. (I can’t get him to shake, but he’ll “gimme five”.) To get a running water source he has jumped into a bathtub and pawed at the handle. He is cat friendly, showing curiosity and desire for a playmate. Because of the sweet, high-protein nature of cat food, bowls and litter boxes need to be actively protected or else Bacon will thorough clean both. Bacon enjoys meeting new people and other dogs. In fact, he seems to wants to meet every living thing he sees. It is a behavior of curiosity and desire for companionship (except perhaps for grass, flowers and seed pods which he eats). Even squirrels encountered on walks are watched, not chased. Bacon is capable of being a strong puller, but he expresses this by trying to remain still to keep investigating, rather than pursuing, something. Bacon is talkative and mouthy but has excellent control of his bite. When he does try to eat something that he shouldn’t have, he will let you sweep his mouth and upper part of his throat to remove it – while trying to swallow it before you can, of course. He tends to grab hands and forearms to let you know he has to go out or wants something, but doesn’t apply pressure. It is a communication behavior, difficult to break because he is trying to talk to you. His “zoomies” launch his 65lbs of muscle and bone with knee breaking speed and power. He is fast, more so for a Rottweiler. He likes chewing on wood and will chase sticks. He understands the game of fetch, but often will try to keep whatever is thrown to him. He enjoys playing tug, and can be interrupted to “sit”. If you’re interacting with him, he gives his attention to you, because interaction is what he wants most. Bacon’s one drawback is his food protection / scavenge motivation. He assumes everything in your hands must be for him. This behavior should improve with a routine and time, but it will take time. His many good qualities revolve around his intelligence and desire to love and be around people who love him. He has puppy high energy, and would do well with a playmate, a yard, and at least daily walks. What he needs most is a loving family and forever home.
