Adopt Peanut Piper3721GA a Black - with White Boston Terrier / Rat Terrier dog

Location:
Maryville, TN
Description:

Peanut Piper, I might be blind but I run circles around my home’s seeing' dogs. I have no eyes, but you would never know it by looking at my sweet, loving face and facial expressions! My foster parents show me off to everyone because no one believes I'm blind. I walk around like I own the place! If you are looking to fall in love, watch out because I make everyone melt...and I do it without batting my eyelashes! I was so relieved to get my eyes removed because they caused a lot of discomfort, but now that I am healthy and pain free - I am like my old self again! I can play with the best...and I will also enjoy quietly lying beside you on the sofa as a low-key, loving, and adoring dog. I get along well with all animals and children and I quickly remember where everything is in the house. You will never know that I navigate without sight! Not to sound arrogant but...EVERYBODY loves me. It's not my fault I'm so adorable and who knew that being blind would make me even more irresistable? Summary: Peanut Piper is a Boston Terrier mix. She is completely blind having had her eyes removed April 2024 due to untreated glaucoma. They were causing her a great deal of pain and discomfort. Since then, she has recovered fully and with enthusiasm! Peanut loves life and does not let her disability slow her down! She quickly learns to navigate surroundings. For instance, within 2 to 3 weeks, she remembered where to sit for her food, where the water dishes are located, where both back doors are located, and the obstacles of the backyard. Most importantly she knows where the couch and the bed are! She jumps up onto the couch herself and navigates pet steps up to our bed and jumps off! Not that we encourage that!! She is currently being fostered in a situation with two other young, active male dogs. They are smallish Boston terrier mixes of about 23 lbs. She gets along very well with them and the cat, however these young dogs are a little too rowdy and rambunctious around her. Peanut does not complain, but I am afraid it is putting her in jeopardy. She is easily bumped and bowled over in their antics. Peanut will probably be better suited to a home with low-key dogs already in the house and who are not particularly jealous of food, toys, or people. She will do very well as a single dog home. Mainly, she would like to be near and around people on a regular basis. Perhaps someone who is retired or works from home, would make the perfect companion for Peanut. She thrives on sitting in someone’s lap or quietly beside them. She is completely crate trained and has never had one accident in her crate in five weeks of foster care. She is mostly house trained however she needs to be let out at regular intervals as she gives no signal when she needs to go outside – there have been a few rare accidents in the house She is a snuggler of epic proportions. She likes to “nurse” her special blankets. She likes to shake and tug her toys. She likes to wrestle and play and do all the things any normal young dog enjoys. She walks on a leash so well that we forget she is blind! She knows the word “walk” and “ride” and gets so excited- she shakes the leash in her mouth! She cried and barked when she realized the other dogs were out with without her! She does not appreciate being left behind! She is absolutely a phenomenal pet! Given a little time and attention, she is easily trained. She simply needs a situation where she will be safe and loved, so please consider your surroundings and all people and furry pets who live in the home with you. She is very good with all the children who she has encountered. So far, she has been tested around kids between three and eight years old and there have been no worrisome situations. The Basics: Age: 5 years old Weight: 19 pounds Spayed: yes Microchipped : yes Vaccines up-to-date : yes On both heartworm and Flea and Tick prevention: yes House Trained: 95% Crate trained: 100% Leash skills: phenomenal Medical issues: without eyes - Completely blind. Has had a skin infection that has cleared up but itchy allergies may possibly be an issue in the future. Diet : Currently eating home cooked turkey/chicken/vegetables with a tiny bit of rice and a sprinkling of Buffalo Blue dry lamb and rice 2xs daily. Mulivitamin and probiotics. Likes/Dislikes: Toys : favorites are anything that makes a sound, especially a grunting pig Other animals: Does fine. But they need to be a little calm and not easily jealous of food, toys, or people. People and Kids: She does great, but she does put out a security alert when she hears new sounds in the house/yard or someone at the door. Takes her a few minutes to get to know someone and she recognizes all familiar voices. Car rides: She knows the term. She gets excited however also nervous until she realizes she’s not being dropped of anywhere. So shaky the first few. Separation anxiety: Yes. The first two weeks were rather dffcult for her as far as crying and barking when put in a crate or left behind a baby gate. Everything got better day by day and we were interacating with a different dog two weeks later. The changes in her have been epic and I feel like she is easily adaptable given a reasonable amount of time. Now she goes peacefully into a crate when we leave for work. She sleeps quietly in a crate beside our bed all night long although she prefers to be in the bed, snuggling with her people!
