This is Carson... we are thinking possibly Male Great Pyrenees pup, as he does have back double dew claws, around 45-50lbs who was rescued from a shelter. He was running loose as a stray for months and finally trapped and with a GRRAND volunteer until healthy. He is VERY skittish at the moment but to be expected as this poor boy has never known what it is like to not have to fend every minute of everyday for himself! He truly is in poor health, but getting better everyday. He has tested positive for Lyme disease and has been giving him medicated baths and his skin is looking so much better, but the poor nutrition has taken its toll on his body and its going to take time. He is on a slow road to recovery and if you would like to donate to helping with Carson's vet care, please visit the Medical Crisis page on the GRRAND website.His foster mom says "I believe Carson will be wonderful once he comes around and starts trusting people. As terrified as he is, he's never acted aggresive or tried biting. I can't wait to see him blossom! Praying he is healthy and an allergy or poor nutrition has caused the mange". We are happy yo hear this guy is headed to a foster home, so we willkeeping learning about him, but this is what we know so far:Carson would do best in a home with another dog. He wants to play with every dog he has come in contact with!! He has done great with males and females, puppies and adult dogs! He will need an above ground securely fenced yard as he is considered a flight risk at this time. As far as new people, he is just like he always has been, timid until he is used to you and knows you aren't a threat. Trust is earned for him and he will not willingly let a stranger touch him. He is sweet and playful once he is comfortable with you and where he is. He is food motivated but haven't witnessed any food aggression and storms do not seem to bother him. He loves to chase tennis balls and play with the Jolly balls! As far as potty training, he came as a stray so the only house training he has is what he has picked up himself.
