Doug was a stray in a little Mexican town known as El Hongo, a town with dirt roads where dogs have a tough time surviving. Stadnding outside my lodging, he came up to me and sat in front of me, staring at me. I put my hand out, palm up, to see if he was friendly. His head darted to my hand like arrow hitting its target. As I petted him, I noticed his protruding ribs. I realized he was still a puppy. I walked inside the house and he followed me. I poured him some dog food and he devoured it with desperation. The poor guy was starving. I left the door open in case he wanted to leave, but he didn't leave. He stayed with me four a couple of days in Mexico, following me around everywhere. I couldn't bare the thought of leaving him behind. But I also could not keep him because city ordinance allows only three dogs. I decided to bring him back with me to try to find him a home. He was friendly, supercute, and playful. Surely someone would want him.
