When Bennie first arrived at TJO he was scared and nervous, but after settling in he started inspecting staff and found we were up to his standards. Bennie has been more social each day, but does not enjoy being handled excessively. He is in search of a home where he can relax and build trust with his new humans.OTHER PETS: Bennie is social and outgoing and would likely get along with other dogs. He should meet any dogs he would be living with prior to adoption. [Likely (Must Meet First)] OWNER EXPERIENCE: [First Dog] KIDS: Bennie gets excited easily, and though he settles well he is jumpy and mouthy when excited. For this reason he would not be a food fit for homes with small children. Bennie would be most comfortable living with humans who will allow him to initiate interactions. [10+ (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Benny would do great with a daily walk around his neighborhood, giving him the chance to exercise his legs and his nose. He enjoys playing with squeaky toys, chasing after stuffies when thrown, and playing tug with staff. [Good Walking Buddy] VETERINARY CARE: [Routine] LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Bennie bond with his new owner as well as ensuring he knows his basic commands and behavorial expectations. [Minimal] GROOMING: Bennie will need regular brushing to ensure his coat does not get matted. He will need to be professionally groomed routinely; probably every 3-4 months. It is recommended to speak with your groomer to develop the best grooming schedule for the amount of at home brushing you will engage in with Bennie.
