Adopt Bruno a White - with Tan, Yellow or Fawn Beagle / Basset Hound dog in New

Location:
New York, NY
Description:

Bruno is a 3-year-old, 25 pound male beagle mix from Texas (but was first rescued in Mexico!) Fun fact: he has a little patch by his tail that is almost perfectly shaped like a heart. He has adjusted very well during his time in the city. He is not fazed by street noise like honking or construction! Cars revving may startle him for a second but he shakes it off like a champ. He does not mind doorbells or hallway noise at all.Chin and ear scratches are the key to Bruno’s heart. He also enjoys some cheese as a treat and midday naps. And in true beagle fashion, he loves lots of sniffs on his walks.Bruno is learning “sit” and will need an owner to continue working with him. He is getting more comfortable every day with potty training. At first he refused to potty outside or was showing lots of hesitation until he found a spot. He’s made so much progress and is now able to potty about 10 minutes into a walk. His owner should continue to praise Bruno for going potty outside — words of affirmation have been going a long way!Bruno is very good on a leash and will match your pace. He does notice other dogs and will occasionally want to greet them. He can easily be redirected and understands “no” if there’s something on the ground you don’t want him to reach for.Bruno is a super gentle, calm and loyal pup.His forever family will need to continue working with Bruno to help him gain more confidence. He gets startled by sudden movements so he will need a patient owner who will match his energy and give him slow pets. He is so sweet with other people but he would be most comfortable with slow introductions. Treats and going on walks with new people will help him warm up to others. He is not into play time right now but he has recently taken some interest in crinkly toys. With time, words of encouragement and lots of love, Bruno will fully settle in.Bruno is doing very well in his crate. He does not get anxious when you close the door and he sleeps through the night comfortably. Bruno is showing signs of separation anxiety and will need an owner to help him feel secure and work with him in the future. A person who works from home or an owner with roommates will help ensure that Bruno is not left alone.Bruno loves to hang out with his foster family and will wag his tail right by your side. He will politely nudge your hands for some pets.Bruno is looking for a quiet, low key family that is available to give him all the pets and cuddles he deserves. He appreciates down time and does not have lots of active moments as he is learning how to play and has yet to get the zoomies! He would be best with older children since running or jumping can startle him. He did have some social time with an 8-year-old and he was so well-behaved and happy to receive pets. He can be a solo dog or should be OK with another dog in the household. Another dog may also help him with getting more comfortable with going potty and play time.Bruno is a big sweetheart and any family would be so lucky to have him.Vaccinated for rabies, DA2PP, and bordetella. Neutered and microchipped. Bruno tested positive for heartworms and was treated on 4/3-4/4. He will need a retest in October to confirm he is heartworm negative. Current on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. To apply for Bruno, visit our website ( www.waggytailrescue.org ) for an adoption application.
