Adopt Pending Adoption - Sadie a White - with Red, Golden

Location:
Havertown, PA
Description:

Socialization/training: Sadie knows her name and comes when called, except when distracted by birds. She is well socialized with people and dogs. She doesn’t react to other dogs on walks/at the dog park beyond a general sniff. Sadie lived outside her entire life prior to entering foster care and is not yet reliably potty-trained. Someone with experience and patience potty-training would be beneficial for her. Sadie was leashed to her foster Mom for the first 2 weeks while in foster care, so there were eyes on her nearly every second of the day to start identifying her potty signals. While we don’t keep her leashed to us any longer, she is at our side all day long. She has made tremendous progress but still will need some work. Crate trained: Sadie is crate-trained at night and the occasional times we are away from the home. She is resistant to go into the crate and sometimes barks for a few minutes while first in there but settles down quickly. Leash trained: Sadie is a work in progress on the leash. Although we have a harness on her, she is very strong for her size and pulls a lot. She can catch us off guard with abrupt shifts in direction to chase a bird, so her adopter should be steady on their feet. She doesn’t react to other dogs on walks/at the dog park beyond a general sniff. Activity Level: Sadie is very energetic for a 5 year old! She would be happy chasing birds around in the backyard and playing fetch with her people. She likes to go on walks, but usually uses them as business trips to hunt down anything with wings! In her foster home, she goes for a mile walk in the morning and at either lunch time or after work with her foster family. During her foster Mom’s work day, she is very content sleeping at her feet. Since we don’t have a fence, we take her to the local dog park a couple of times/week so she can run off some energy. In the evening, she is super content to cuddle up on the couch. She loves to play fetch and chew on dog toys. Fence: Sadie hunted quail with her owner until he passed away and she entered foster care. Due to her extremely high prey drive a physical fence is required. She has not tried to climb the 4 foot fence at the dog park. Behavior: Sadie is super affectionate! She loves to be with her people and follows us around all day. She would be best suited in a home where people are home most of the day, so she can either sit with them while they are working or be out and about with them throughout the day. She is VERY cuddly and sits with her head in our laps in the evening while we’re watching tv. Although she was great with our grandnieces (4 and 7), I think she would prefer to live in a home either with older children or no children at all due to her limited exposure to children in her prior life and while in foster care. She gets along great with her 2 foster dog brothers and every other dog we’ve encountered while on walks/at dog park, so I think she would enjoy having another dog in the home or could enjoy being in an only dog home as well. Cats are unknown. She is petrified of loud noises and needs comfort during thunderstorms and times that she may be within hearing distance of fireworks, guns or other loud noises. Medical History: Sadie will be available for transport after a few days of recovery from her spay on 5/30/2024. While under anesthesia for the spay, a small outward freckle on her eyelid will be removed since it could eventually interfere with her eyesight. She is up to date on vaccinations, microchipped and on monthly heartworm/flea/tick prevention. Although Sadie tested negative for heartworm, the other dog in the yard where Sadie was rescued from is heartworm positive and Sadie should be retested in October, 2024 as a precaution. Sadie has arthritis in her rear two knees from untreated injuries in her prior life. The vet at Sadie’s foster home does not recommend surgery but recommends a daily chewable joint supplement. Sadie will most likely need pain medication to help with the arthritis when she is an older lady. Foster Comments: We have owned setters for nearly 30 years and she is truly a special setter. She has won our hearts and we wish we could keep her! Our HOA allows only 2 dogs and we were at capacity when she came to us for foster care. Whoever adopts Sadie will be very lucky because she is an absolute sweetheart. She craves affection but is not overly demanding for it. She loves to be with her people and would do best in a home where someone is home most of the day. She would be happiest in a home with either older children or no kids at all. She gets along great with other dogs but would also be happy as an only dog. She will be available for transport after June 2, 2024. Foster location: Milford, MI Volunteer transport can be arranged in the Continental US within a 1,000-mile distance between adopters & foster home. If interstate transport is provided for your adopted dog, there will be an additional charge of $50.00 for the required Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (“Health Certificate”). Typically, we are able to transport your adopted dog to within 2 hours of your home. *Dogs can be adopted outside the 1000-mile transport distance; however, adopters must be willing to either fly their adopted dog, drive to a location within the 1000-mile transport range, or make independent transport arrangements for their adopted dog. Transports to far Western states, from Eastern states, may have additional restrictions. ##2017695##
