Adopt Available - Linus a White - with Red, Golden, Orange or Chestnut English

Location:
Havertown, PA
Description:

Socialization/training: Linus is a young, happy-go-lucky setter mix, hailing from Greece. Everything is new to him and he is a very curious and playful pup. While he can initially be skittish around new things, he quickly adapts, especially if there are love and pets involved. In that case, he will give ten-fold in return. His love language is 100% touch and the closer the better to bestow his endless kisses. He is very receptive at meal times and is learning to sit and wait patiently until released to eat his food. Even with a slow feeder, he still inhales his food. He is not food aggressive, but will help himself to others' food with no intervention. Since he is so food motivated, training him to sit, wait, and stay has been easy. With more time and training, I have no doubt he will quickly pickup other commands. He is also doing well with ringing a bell to go outside and accidents have been minimal. He’s a lover of people and gets along well with dogs. He is interested but not overly fixated on our cat. He has not been around babies/toddlers, but all the older children he’s interacted with he’s loved and gotten along with famously. Crate trained: Yes, Linus is crated when we are away or not able to give him 100% of our attention. He is still learning what is a toy and what is not. We highly recommend indestructible toys as he tends to shred and occasionally swallow any type of stuffed toy. He also sleeps in his crate at night and rarely makes any noise. Leash trained: Linus is an excellent leash walker and typically walks 3-4 miles daily. He occasionally gets distracted with a person or other dog, but will always regain attention and sit for a treat. He tends to be more interested in pouncing on nearby bugs than the typical birds or squirrels most setters hunt. This may change as he’s more familiar with his environment, but at the moment his prey drive is low. Also, as opposed to our other dogs that pull on leash, Linus is a laggard and trails behind investigating. Activity Level: As a younger setter, Linus definitely has energy and enjoys romping around the house with our other dogs as well as chasing and chewing on toys; however, he will also put himself to bed in his crate when tired and calms down after dinner and walks. Fence: A physical fence would be preferred as he is quite bouncy and has easily scaled our doggie 3ft high doggie door. Behavior: Linus loves cuddling on the couch upside down and being held like a baby. He also tends to sleep in his crate in that position as well. He does well in the car and slept 90% of the 14 hour trip he took to Colorado. A doggie seat belt is recommended as he would prefer to be on your lap or in your face. He rarely barks but is vocal when playing, making all sorts of snorts, grunts, and play growls. He is always watchful of direct eye contact and the sounds and smells of food. When he notices either, his ears will perk up at full attention, his tail will wag and he’ll eagerly make his way over. He needs constant attention and if left alone he can and will get into trouble. Medical History: Linus is in excellent health with no significant medical history. He tested negative for tick born illnesses, heartworms and leishmania. He is currently on heartworm prevention. Linus is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations. He is due for his next leishmaniasis test in March 2025. Linus originates from Greece where Leishmaniasis is endemic. He tested negative before coming to the USA, but the parasite can remain dormant in the system for many years, so potential adopters must be willing to commit to annual testing for the next 7 years. Typically, the test needs to be sent to a special lab, but any regular vet can draw the blood and send it to the lab. The cost of the test seems to vary widely by area, but is approximately $150-$250 or if your vet is willing to send the test to a veterinary college lab, cost can be as low as $80 . Foster Comments: Linus is the perfect pocket sized setter with an adorable puppy face and a smooth silky coat. Linus will quickly fall in love with you as you will with him—his personality makes it impossible not to. He is always ready to please, play, and jump on your lap for cuddles. He is very adaptable but I believe he’d appreciate a home with other dogs or children to interact with and give him attention. Linus’ affection has no bounds and if you are lucky enough to adopt him, you’ll have a best friend for life. Foster location: Colorado Springs, CO Volunteer transport can be arranged in the Continental US within a 1,000-mile distance between adopters & foster home. If interstate transport is provided for your adopted dog, there will be an additional charge of $50.00 for the required Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (“Health Certificate”). Typically, we are able to transport your adopted dog to within 2 hours of your home. *Dogs can be adopted outside the 1000-mile transport distance; however, adopters must be willing to either fly their adopted dog, drive to a location within the 1000-mile transport range, or make independent transport arrangements for their adopted dog. Transports to far Western states, from Eastern states, may have additional restrictions. ##2037616##
