Adopt Kansas a Red/Golden/Orange/Chestnut Australian Cattle Dog / Mixed dog in

Location:
Garden City, NY
Description:

Location: Raleigh, NC. Meet Kansas 2-3 year old male, fixed, UTD, ~45lbs.Dog Friendly, Puppy FriendlyCat FriendlyLow-Energy, Couch Type Key Take Aways: *Not* a Farm Dog*Not* an Adventure Dog*IS* a Home-Body Dog*IS* a Quiet Dog*You’ll always have me to Dog Sit *for FREE*Kansas is a SWEET, lovable and low-key kind of ACD. He had a bit of traumatic beginning before getting rescued and he’s been in foster care since September 2023 and has finally learned how to be a dog in a family . Kansas is a sweet soul but does need someone who is experienced with sensitive personalities. Once you get passed that threshold with him, and he learns that you are his family, this boy is SPRINGING for love- quite literally.Kansas would do best in a home with no young children (Under 10) and if children, and a home that does not travel a lot. While ACD’s are more commonly known to be great adventure dogs, Kansas doesn’t need or wants to travel the world. He much prefers someone who is a home-body. Don’t get me wrong, taking him to a greenway/long leisure walk somewhere isn’t out of the question. Fenced yard will be required for this sweet boy, and we prefer a privacy fence but I may be open to a typical 3.5-4ft fence with some guidelines (he has potentially escaped once in a different home with a fence this low with no one watching). He is great with both of my male resident dogs (one fixed, one intact) and has been fine with all other foster dogs who have come through my home over the months. He is fabulous with my 6 cats (Literally, pays no mind, ever). He is kennel trained and is QUIET day in and day out. No accidents in the house (unless you don’t let him out after many hours). Doesn’t counter surf. Never aggressive. No prey drive. Doesn’t chew on any furniture, ever-Don’t think he knows how. Calm demeanor. Doesn’t like thunder/fireworks/booms, but doesn’t lose his mind-Just walk calmly to a “safe” place. His personality: He’s sensitive, but quirky and happy and sweet and calm. Once he feels safe, he likes to go leap both inside/outside in a fun, playful atmosphere. He can *sometimes* be nippy, but its extremely soft and unintentional. He loves snackies, meal time, going with the crew (my dogs) and I to some dog events but can also easily chill at home and sleep on the couch while I am working (at home) or having a quiet night watching TV. Kansas is to never be left unsupervised outside of his kennel- This includes overnight. Kansas actually quite enjoys his kennel but can sometimes be too curious about what toys or blankets taste like and I’ve talked to him several times about this being an undesired trait, but he won’t listen to me.In addition to the ingestion issue mentioned above, unfortunately, while in rescue we have found by surprise that sweet Kansas has bi-lateral hip dysplasia due to undeniable poor breeding. (X-rays available for adopter). At this time, its very clear that this does not slow him down and he shows no painful reactions to this. As I’ve stated, he will bounce over and over until he is eye level with you with the happiest of faces ever. He has not ever showed a limp or lameness in foster care. However, it is possible he may need further medical assist in his future, should he become painful. There are many things to be done/given now to help lessen him becoming painful too soon such as joint supplements, Adequan injections, or maybe Librela injections. All of this, I am happy to discuss and give support where needed. What is his foster Mom looking for? ***Someone who lives within 1.5hrs of Raleigh, NC. · Yes, This is a HARD ask. But Kansas needs to meet you several times and arrange some dates before he can be fully adopted out to you. He WILL make someone very happy one day and I am COMMITTED to helping him on that journey, but he needs to learn and understand its okay to love another family and they’ll still love him like we do. Someone who prefers many at-home activities instead of adventuresSomeone who doesn’t have young children (Under 10) *PREFER* Fenced yard with privacy, but will accept 3.5-4ft fence with an understanding.*Must be open to the idea of getting a GPS collar on him, or GPS tag* Can explain if interested.Someone who understands PATIENCE and does not expect him to love them and be bonded within 1-2 weeks. For questions please contact XXXX@gmail.com.
