Adopt Chico a Brown/Chocolate Bull Terrier dog in Dallas, TX (41506119)

Location:
Dallas, TX
Description:

Chico is a super smart boy! We were told by a vet that he is about 1.5 to 2 years old. He wants to please, he learns quickly, he is very affectionate and loves to be with people. Our family gets together regularly for dinner and games and that means lots of kids, lots of noise and a little bit of chaos and Chico loves to be right in the middle of it all. Chico is more drawn to men, is extremely attached to my husband and looks to him for all his direction. We personally think Chico needs a strong male leader, like my husband, because Chico is 80% donkey (LOL) but responds much better to my husband's voice and presence, than mine. We take our dogs pretty much everywhere we go, and they know on our outings that they will get to go to a field to run several times.... which they LOVE and Chico has benefitted from those runs because he is med-high energy. Chico is part kangaroo too. It's like he has rubber on his pads. When he gets excited, he jumps and twists, sometimes flips. It is the cutest thing! He also knows parkour and we have one room in our house where we hang out with our dogs and let him parkour with Bella. Cocoa is too mature for that childish activity. It is one of the funniest things to watch when those 2 get going. Chico has been very good with our two other dogs from day one. Our oldest dog Cocoa is a 4 -year-old female Staffordshire Pitbull, obsessively obedient, extremely intelligent, is not influenced by Chico's lack of manners and stubbornness to our commands, and she is the alpha. Chico has not necessarily been submissive to her, but he knows his place with her. Our youngest Bella is 3-year-old American Pitbull, who of all three dogs is the gentlest, nurturing, protective, and submissive. She is very smart but is very distracted and influenced by Chico's lack of manners and stubbornness to our commands. From day one they have played together, wrestled, groomed one another, slept together and all the things' dogs like to do, but we have had 3 incidents in the past three months while fostering Chico, (that we've witnessed) where he got aggressive with Bella. All incidents revolved around lawn equipment, and water hose. The first incident was with a weed eater, the second was a leaf blower and the third was a water hose. All three of those devices, for whatever reason, triggered him to first attack the instrument, then he went after Bella very aggressively. All three incidents he had to be aggressively separated from her, and if we had not been there, he most likely would have seriously injured her. Just to note, neither one of our dogs fear Chico, so I have to assume they know something about him that we don't just by observation. Prior to these incidents, I was 95% trusting him around my grandkids with our supervision. The other 5% was just because we didn't really know him when we rescued him, so it was just needing time to get to know him. Now that I witnessed him be so "distracted by these lawn tools that we had to intervene to get him off of Bella, it's very difficult for me to trust him around my grandkids in particular, but anywhere with anyone because I'm afraid of the potential risk.My husband had originally rescued Chico from a customer at his job who told him that their Doberman Pinscher was aggressive with Chico and they felt sorry for him, which made my husband feel sorry for Chico. At that time, Chico had multiple bite marks in various stages of healing all over him, but primarily his face and neck. We brought him into our home and of course had him neutered, chipped, and all his shots with the hopes of rehoming him because we already have two dogs and not enough space in our backyard for three. It's hard not to love Chico and get attached to him because besides being so darn cute he has a sweet and funny personality, he's desperate for affection, he has the cutest curious looks, he's incredibly smart, "talks and has very quickly acclimated to our home and life. Everyone in our family loves Chico! We are not sure what the truth is about Chico's former owners, but we do know just from our time with him and our experience with dogs, that Chico was probably left to his own devices and did not learn good manners. I do not know if Chico was house trained at his other house, but we did have to house train him at our house, and I don't know if that was lack of training or he was asserting his dominance in his new digs, but he has learned to potty outside. It is going to be hard for us to let Chico go, but we know it is for his best. Chico is participating in The Love Pit's iRehome program, so ongoing care and custody are provided by their foster. All behavior and medical information is provided by their caretaker, and TLP encourages all adopters to verify the information with their caretaker prior to adoption.
