Pip is a 3-year-old neutered male dog rescued from a hoarding situation who has adapted well to home life, is house-trained, non-destructive, and gets along with other pets. Pip is playful, smart, and loving. But Pip is also aggressive toward strangers and particularly children. A previous adoption failed due to his unimproved aggression and he has one prior bite (Level 2) incident that did require stitches. Currently on fluoxetine, efforts with a canine behaviorist haven't curbed his reactivity, which is exacerbated by our noisy urban environment where the continuous external stimuli keep him in a persistent fight/flight state, hindering emotional reconditioning. Thus, we rely on management strategies to prevent incidents which limits his exposure but not his stress. Pip needs a quiet, rural home with a large, fenced yard and an experienced owner familiar with trauma and positive reinforcement techniques. He is best suited to an adult-only household without frequent visitors.
