Adopt Penny a Gray/Silver/Salt & Pepper - with White Schnauzer (Miniature) /

Location:
Fountain Valley, CA
Description:

Meet Penny! 6 years old13 poundsSpayed femaleSchnauzer mix of some sort- poodle or yorkie we suspect. She is very sweet, easy-going and quiet. She is shy at first but does not take her long to warm up! She will warm up by the end of your first day together and will come to you. At the end of one week, she will love you! Penny loves all people, especially men. She would prefer to live with kids over 10 years old. She is not a biter, she just likes a more mellow situation, and younger children would potentially startle her. We are here to grant her wishes and find her a great fit! She just learned how to walk on a leash over the last 3 weeks and now LOVES her walks. She is really laid back; She would be fine with one 20 minute walk a day (as long as she also has a yard to potty of course). She does get spooked by loud noises and will freeze at times in the middle of a walk, but she's better and better each day. A "Martingale Collar" *must* be always used on walks to prevent her from slipping out of a regular collar. Absolutely no harness. A Martingale collar and flat leash will be going home with her. Penny is 95% potty trained (but that is how most new dogs come anyway! They need to learn your routine and timing). She needs to be taken out periodically as she does not know how to tell you she needs to go yet, but her signs will be pacing around and walking in circles. She prefers to pee on grass and poop on concrete. Penny was an outdoor dog before- living on concrete. She just learned grass exists last month. She really is a quick learner! Penny is crate trained. She will run to eat in her crate during feeding time. She will go to sleep in her crate on her own when she is tired. At that point you may close her crate. She doesn't like to be put in her crate when she is not ready to go inside. She will complain if it's too early for her to go to bed. Bedtime is usually right after 9:30 pm. Her crate is her safe place, most of her crate entries are all on her own. Penny does well in the car, she is in a foster home where everyone travels by crate, and she is quiet and content in her crate. When left alone at home, she is not crated, and she does not bark. She could be crated when her people are not home- but she would need to potty in 3-4 hours so not for longer than that. She prefers male dogs over female dogs as she can be a bully to female dogs. She loves to play --with male dogs only. If there's another dog in the home, it would work out best that that dog be MALE. She lived alone in her previous home; however, she really has warmed up to having other doggie friends in her foster home. -As I type this, she is sleeping between two white fluffy boy dogfriends. She is doing amazing adapting and learning in her foster home quickly. Her foster home has a set routine and structure. This likely contributes to her easy transition (as well as good doggies in the home that she can model). She knows what is expected of her and what to expect. This creates a low anxiety home. Penny is non shedding and has hair that grows- so she will require regular grooming. She is nervous when groomed but will allow it when done slowly and not pushing her. Probably better to groom with small local groomers that can be patient and take a few more minutes, rather than a big grooming salon that is on a time crunch with chaos swirling around the area. Penny is fostered in La Puenta, CA area and can be adopted in Orange County and LA County. Other areas will be considered on a case by case basis. Sorry- No out of state adoptions unless you are a returning adopter with K9 Spirit.
