Otis is a very handsome red smooth male dachshund. Otis is 8 years old, a loveable guy and now ready to find a spot and people to call his own forever. Otis' potty habits are improving. He simply does not love going outside with his humans. He also is not in love with grass. Initially, his foster parents struggled to get him to potty outside even with ample time. That is improving but is certainly not perfect. Expect some transition & accidents and plan for patience as he learns that most families perfect number 1 and 2 outside! He does like to pee on his foster parents' bath mat so be prepared. Otis initially barked, alot, when his foster parents left. That is also improving. He now settles after a few minutes. His foster parents work & do leave him during the day, so he can adjust to a schedule. But Otis probably would not prefer a long 8 hour day alone everyday. We are open to discussing schedules but just know he may need a little time to adjust. Otis would be fine as an only dog where he would be a lap dog but he started playing with his foster sister and enjoys it. If Otis were to be adopted to a family home alot with no other dog, he would probably be fine. If moving to a working family environment, Otis likely needs a fur sibling as we simply worry too much alone time would be hard on him. Otis does enjoy other dogs & even likes his bossy foster sister. Otis has to settle into his foster home. Initially, he followed his foster parents around constantly, looking for them. He attempted to bolt out the door. Those behaviors have calmed and now Otis comes when called & his foster parents can redirect him. A new family should expect some regression but consistently and patience has proven he will settle into the families' routine. His foster parents know he is easily trained as he has responded so well in their home. Otis has loved all visitors to his foster home & his foster parents describe him as incredible sweet. Kids over the age of 8 years old should be fine. Otis recently lost 22 teeth but is otherwise healthy. He is fully vetted, up-to-date on vaccines, neutered, had a dental & is microchipped. Otis is fostered in the Greensboro, NC area and any interested family will need to travel to the area to meet him. We wiill consider applicants within several hours of NC and in neighboring states.
