Meet Big Boy! This gorgeous Shepherd Mix has not had a lot of stability in his young life but he still has a very sweet and trusting nature. He’s a fun-loving, goofy boy who was adopted from a Charlotte shelter as a baby puppy and ended up a stray in a rural SC county shelter only months later. He was adopted again, still very much a puppy, then returned to the shelter a few months later by a family who was not the right fit for a young, active pup. He was failed by the system multiple times but through it all, he’s maintained a positive outlook on life’s adventures, loves people, and has excellent doggy social skills. Big Boy's luck changed when he caught the eye of one of our seasoned foster moms, Laine, who also volunteers at the shelter. She wanted to help him, and after seeing him in regular doggy play groups, felt he would fit in well with her pack. Big Boy has been in his foster home for 1.5 weeks, living with Laine, Gary, and their three GSDs. He's done well with his new pack and found a buddy and playmate in the youngest dog, Girl. Big Boy is housetrained and crate-trained and can jump a 4.5 ft baby gate without a second thought. He LOVES toys of all kinds, playing chase with Girl in the backyard, and frolicking in the resident kiddy pool. He can be vocal when he plays with the other dogs but it’s just his style. He likes to talk to them and knows to respect their boundaries. Big Boy has spurts of energy but can also be chill in the home…he’s more of a moderate-energy dog who loves to play. At first, Big Boy was a little anxious in his new home when Laine would leave him alone. He would whine and jump the baby gate to find her. But, after a week of settling in, he stays in the kitchen and plays with his toys, entertaining himself when she is in another room. Laine leaves him crated with a Kong when she leaves the home, and he does fine with that. Laine is starting to take him out on more walks and expose him to new things and so far he's done well and just wants to be in the mix. Big Boy loves people and dogs alike. He has a natural zest for life, rides well in the car, and loves to go on new adventures. He greets new people well and hasn’t met a dog he doesn’t like. He also met the resident cat and was a little intimidated — he understood quickly that she rules the roost! We are looking for fun, active owners for Big Boy.
