Adopt Bruno a Black Labrador Retriever / Mixed dog in Staten Island

Location:
Staten Island, NY
Description:

Meet Bruno: the loyal, cuddly, quirky canine with a heart of gold. This 3-year-old, 30-lb Lab mix is searching for his forever home, and we know there's a perfect match out there for this lovable pup. Bruno is a cautious but outgoing social butterfly! With a supportive introduction he can get along with most any other dog (and even some cats), and loves playing with dogs his own size (or bigger if they can play gently), as well as puppies and older dogs! He thrives living with friendly other dogs who will fold him into their pack. Experienced pet homes with a furry sibling or two will be the best fit for him. Strengths: Bruno is a fast and eager learner, and enjoys training and learning new things. He thrives on the structure and predictability that training brings, and enjoys bonding through those activities. He also lives to please--and eat cheese--which makes training a breeze. Bruno walks well on leash, loves leisurely sniff walks, and is fully house trained. He sleeps well in a crate at night if made, especially with a few towels or blankets to cuddle into, but will gladly sleep in your bed to snuggle you if you let him! Challenges: Bruno can be skittish and nervous in new situations, and has some separation anxiety. This is part of why he benefits from having other dogs to take the lead from and the predictability and bonding which training offers. He is on daily medication (generic Prozac)--which has helped him conquer his separation anxiety and brought out his social curiosity--and he loves to do a trick for it once it's tucked into a piece of cheese. Paw, please! Accomplishments: Bruno has very successfully completed two rounds of group classes with an AKC certified trainer, and has also learned to manage separation anxiety. He used to bark a whole lot while home alone. Now, he can happily stay home alone, but he's even happier once you're back - Bruno will bring a toy to play with and greet you immediately! Best Fit: Bruno's forever home should be an adult-only household, as he can get very nervous around kids. He will thrive with a furry sibling or two and moderately active parent(s) who will continue teaching him new tricks and training. Bruno is a true people pleaser and will spend as much time with you as you let him, and would love to be in a household where someone is retired or works from home. He would also love a home with a yard and a squirrel or two to chase from time to time, especially if there was a sunny spot for him to sit in. Day to Day: Gentle strolls on beautiful days are Bruno's idea of a great time. Chasing squirrels brings out his playful side, but car rides can make him a bit nervous. At home, Bruno loves a good game of tug o' war, chasing after his favorite toys Mr. Squirrel and Ms. Cactus, squeezing treats out of his kong/activity ball, and then he will settle in to cozy on the couch or in his bed. He does not need large amounts of exercise, but will keep up on longer walks if you bring treats. If you're looking for a loyal, snuggly, and playful companion to share your days with, Bruno is the perfect match. This furry bundle of joy will give you endless love, cuddles, and lazy days at home. He's just waiting for the right person or family to welcome him with open arms and provide the forever home he deserves. Bruno is currently in Brooklyn, NY and his adoption fee is sponsored. To adopt this animal, please visit https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt. All of our animals come spayed or neutered, fully up to date on vaccinations, including rabies (if age appropriate) and Bordetella, are microchipped, heartworm negative, current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention, dewormed, and treated for any ailments found upon veterinary examination. The adoption fee covers a portion of these services, and makes it possible for us to continue rescuing animals. For more information on the adoption fees and the adoption process, please complete our adoption application here: https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt - an application allows us to get to know your family better so we can assess whether the animal you are interested in is a good match for your home. An application does not obligate you to adopt. Please understand that due to the volume of applications some animals receive, we are unable to contact all applicants. If your application is considered a good fit for the animal you are interested in, or even a different pet, a volunteer will give you a call as soon as possible. We are a foster based rescue and do not have a shelter location where animals can be seen during the week. Please see our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/LouiesLegacy for our weekly adoption album if you are interested in meeting an animal in person. Not all animals attend every adoption event, please check our Facebook page for animal event times and locations before you make a trip to meet a specific animal.
